MySpace Makes '08 'Impact'
March 19, 2007 10:30 AM
ABC News' Matthew Zavala Reports: MySpace.com, a popular internet networking site, launched a campaign over the weekend aimed at educating voters on the various candidates.
"As the country's most trafficked Web site, MySpace will play a powerful role in the upcoming election," Chris DeWolfe, MySpace's chief executive said in a statement.
'Myspace Impact' appears on the site's homepage and has links to the ten presidential candidates and their individual MySpace profile pages. Candidates are hoping to provide information to potential supporters, upload photos, and videos. The networking site is used more often by younger people, a demographic that often proves elusive to presidential candidates.
Although Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., leads Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in early polls, Obama has over 68,000 friends on his MySpace compared to Clinton's near 1,100. Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., is in second place among the top three candidates with almost 14,000 friends, including his wife, Elizabeth Edwards.
On the Republican side of things, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., narrowly leads Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., 1,133 to 973.
The Impact page will also offer links to articles that provide information about the candidate's and their stances on issues.
