On August 21, 2007, ABC News interviewed Philip Zelikow, former advisor to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, for a report about Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. Today, ABC News issued the following statement:
Philip Zelikow tells us that, while he is a consultant for Barbour Griffith & Rogers, he is not working directly or indirectly on behalf of Ayad Allawi. Dr. Zelikow and BGR also maintain that he did not know the firm was representing Dr. Allawi at the time of his interview with ABC News. While we would have preferred to know about his consulting relationship in advance, we take Dr. Zelikow at his word and believe his dealings with us have only been aboveboard.
