Obama Raises $32 Million in January
January 31, 2008 6:59 AM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Barack Obama's presidential campaign raised a whopping $32 million in January alone. The number is the highest any candidate has raised in a single month and matches Obama's best three-month period from last year.
In a conference call with reporters, Sen. Obama's campaign manager David Plouffe announced the campaign will report 170,000 new donors and $32 million for the primary.
Plouffe said that the surge followed Obama's New Hampshire loss to Democratic rival Sen. Hillary Clinton, "We took a lot of encouragement from that because it showed the resolve of our existing donor base but we also added a lot of additional donors that day."
Leading into a competitive Super Tuesday contest that leaves the races after it very much in play, the financial standing of the candidates is increasingly important.
"This contest could go on for some time in the primary and we think the strength of our financial positioning and the number of donors does speak to the financial sustainability and if it ends up going though March and April we will have the resources necessary to conduct rigorous campaigns in the states to come."
The Obama campaign will go on air in all of the February 9, 10, and 12 primary states in the coming days, and they already have significant money devoted to advertising in nearly every February 5 state.

Isn't that wonderful!! You meet different people from all walks of live who are behind Obama -- and I sure hope it translates into votes -- the state I live in just might cause a big upset to Hillary.
YES, WE CAN

Obama is inspiring millions, and clearly he is still raising millions without the tainted support of PACs and Washington lobbyists.
YES WE CAN!

Now the rest of the story! TED'S ENDORSEMENT CAME AS A RESULT OF OBAMA AGREEMENT TO GIVE TED A VP SPOT IF HE IS NOMINATED FOR PRESIDENT! That's why the Massachusetts money flowed so readily even though Obama lost NH! That's an independent observers opinion!

goes to show that people believe in his cause and that he can bring something new.

As super Tuesday approachs, a lot of Dems are really panicking about a Clinton candidacy and all that implies. Hillary voted to give Bush authority to preempt war in Iraq. In a general election what can she say about that war, that will hold water? She lost her moral authority. Not a single life lost in Iraq will be brought back by her brilliant policy wonking. And now that 2 trillion in tax payer money has been spent on it, who will pay for those policies? Isn't that what happened to LBJ too? When it mattered most, Hillary lacked the courage and vision of a true leader who can find a safe path for the people. Many people out of fear and anger backed the attack on Iraq even though it was clearly in retrospect, irrational. We need a leader who can calm and postively influence the public mind, not pander to it. Vote O.

On San Francisco Gate you can find an interview with Obama and the editorial board. That did it to me! He showed so much substance, so much understanding of what democracy is, so many ideas and viewpoints, that are new in today politics, but are also so common sense that you wonder "why hasn't it always been like this?"
Let's go for a wise president

Who are these donors ? I suspect they are registered republicans determined to put Obama on top someone they can chew up easily during the general elections.

Wow! That is nothing to sneeze at...

If money talks then the Obama supporters won't shut up. As we all know, funding is the achilles heel of any underdog campaign. Can you feel that? The winds of change are blowing. I think the HRC campaign is starting to shake in their Prada boots. Obama has the "mo", the money and the message. All she has is republicans hoping she can still win. It should be a helluva show these next few months.
YES WE CAN!!! YES WE CAN!!! YES WE CAN!!!

Wow, $32 million? Seems like the "Man of Change" is using nothing but the old tried and true way of getting elected. Wake up people. He is inexperienced, has no platform, and his incessant calls for fundemental change are as sincere as Hillary's tears.

According to my calculations, today alone there has been 26 pro obama headlines and 3 negative clinton headlines. And we wonder what rich conservates who OWN the media such as ABC , MSNBC and CNN think of Bill and Hillary Clinton? I wonder what all you Obama lovers are going to say when the TOTAL opposite happens when he faces John McCain. Boy you are going to BEWAIL the injusice. America media BRAINWASHING the public into voting their way is a sure sign that America is FINISHED as a world power.

Quite the haul of money. Does ABC know the donors? Stories have been running about the return of monies. Is the $32 million net of the monies returned? Mitt Romney, too, has poured vast resources into the campaign, yet McCain who was almost broke appears very strong. These monies are probably a bad omen for BO. I think ordinary people look at this wealth, are disgusted by it, and want no part of this campaign.

Hey TVCASTER, did you read any news at all today? Ted Kennedy decided to support Obama because Hillary's LBJ comments ###### him off. As they should have. Remember in the 60s, Ted happened to be all about Civil Rights? Or weren't you around for the 60s? Like Ted Kennedy would even WANT to be VP.

Beware of a love fest from Republicans.
They want to win.
They have no interest putting a Democrat in office, over a fellow Republican.
Hillary, a woman energizes the Repos to vote. And a black guy supporting late term abortions even through month 9 won't?
Obama's folks earlier in the fall were saying how Rupert Murdoch was going to back Clinton and this proved it was all an inside deal. Well, today, the NY Post, the republican wing of the New York City newspapers has endorsed - - DRUM ROLL PLEASE - - -
O B A M A !!! Yeah!! Hurray!! Yippee!!
What does that tell you folks? They want him to win. They endorsed him. They will DEVOUR him. One bite. Without chewing. No water needed to wash him down.
He is lightweight, green, not even a HALF a term completed. Spent 1 year of the 2 he has been in, running for an even higher office, because the one he has is not great enough for his ego.
He squints at his audiences, nose slightly raised, arrogant and looks like he's OWED this office.
Without a script, in debates, he stammers, he stutters, he hesitates. He avoids direct quotes of his own. He ducks specifics. He distracts with outside events. He dodges. He spins. He dips.
He is exactly like George W. Bush in an impromptu press conference. When he doesn't have prepared notes taped to the tops of his shoes, he can barely run two sentences together. And debates show Obama has the same disease - arrogant self-righteous confidence, with an element of royalty. A sense that we all owe him something and are a bit too backward and old to hand it over without question.

A VP nod for Ted Kennedy would be an insult. Did you hear the media talk about him this week? They called him a "lion of the Senate" he will be re-elected until he dies. Why wast his time with a VP job?
Posted by: Waleeg | Jan 31, 2008 7:38:46 AM
And the democrats are for the poor people. Thats the biggest lie ever told.

I feel chang in the air, too. Hillary is done, out, bye-bye, adios! Yes we can...! Yes we can...! Yes we can...!
Posted by: Edward Chacha | Jan 31, 2008 7:42:10 AM
I don't believe Ted has been promised a VP spot, because he has far, far more power right where he is. Ted was infuriated by Hillary's dismissal of JFK's legacy, and with good reason. Also, Bill Clinton's complete sneeringly dismissal of Obama's win in South Carolina was nothing more than lightly-veiled racism. That can't stand, and it won't.
I WOULD love to see a place for John Edwards in an Obama administration....maybe Attorney General?

Polls aren't picking up young voters on cell phones. Obama is not taking PAC money. Clinton is as hawkish as McCain, we'd never get out of Iraq and the corporate boards will continue to direct US policy. Obama is a chance at least at real democracy.
