On Econ Tour, Clinton Says She's a 'Big Believer in Attitude'

March 31, 2008 12:19 PM

ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: A gum-chewing Hillary Clinton greeted truck drivers outside in rainy Harrisburg, PA. The drivers were protesting the high oil prices – and Clinton stopped to share their frustration and explained to a few of them what she will do address their concerns, including opening up the petroleum reserve to ease the high prices temporarily. Clinton stood in the rain for about 10 minutes taking questions and listening to these concerns before stepping into a diner to hold an economic roundtable.

On the forth day of Clinton's 'Solutions for the American Economy' tour (or as her advisers put it "Econ-a-palooza") the Senator addressed the economic news today. However, more interesting, was a possible insight to the way the Senator's thinking about the race for her party's nomination. When speaking to a young woman who voiced her desire to pursue a career in medicine, Clinton urged the woman not to give up.

"This will work out. I am a big believer in attitude. You know sometimes it looks pretty daunting but you have to believe you will be able to make it work for you to get the resources you need that something will happen and hopefully one of the things that will happen is that I will get elected president."

Clinton neglected hitting her Democratic rival, instead focused her efforts on the Republican frontrunner. "Senator McCain recently gave a speech on the economy and best I could determine his plan was not to have a plan. If he got the 3am call on the economy he would just let the phone ring and ring and ring."

Clinton left the attacking of her opponent to the Mayor of Harrisburg, Steven Reed. "Senator Clinton didn't just show up on our doorstep in 2008 and say 'I'd like to be president because I think it'd be a neat thing.' She's been busy working for us for years and years and years and frankly, I'm getting a little tired of people who try not to give her credit for that." He continued "Senator Clinton has been working for us and it didn’t start when she became a candidate for president. It didn't even start when she became a candidate for the United States Senate in our neighboring state. She's a Pennsylvanian who cares about American values and Pennsylvania values."

Addressing the news from the Treasury Department ,Clinton said “Today the administration through the secretary of the treasury has announced that finally the Bush administration is going to take some action to better regulate the financial markets. Well after years of a wait-and-don't-see approach to the regulatory failures that let to the housing and the credit crisis they've announced a plan that comes late and falls short."

Clinton said, "No amount of rearranging the deck chairs can hide the fact that our housing and credit markets are in crisis and they are sinking deeper every day."

I don't want a gum-chewing President.

I finally want some style and class and intelligence in the White House.

In other words, the Obama family.

While I get that the Clinton campaign has fundraising issues when their fundraisers call someone (and this means you "Steve") and they say that they are in the middle of planninmg their aunt's funeral you do not continue your pitch and end with "have a great day". This will drive not only a donor away but a voter as well.

William Ayers and Rev Wright - Obama is doomed in the general. I'm a proud Democrat but I will never support someone lacking any sense of judgement over their brief and unimpressive political career. Do your homework and jobs Dems and nominate someone who can win in Nov.

Jeff, well put; I totally agree with you!

"hile I get that the Clinton campaign has fundraising issues when their fundraisers call someone (and this means you "Steve") and they say that they are in the middle of planninmg their aunt's funeral" Eric, you can't blame Senator Clinton for that. That's quite silly. I've donated 6 times to the Clinton campaign and I've never once received a phone solicitation from them. Just because it's true for you does not mean it's true for everyone else.

I would never vote for either democratic candidate. That said, I do believe Clinton is the victim of far left politicians -- mostly, the elite east coast liberal establishment. There's no doubt Obama is more to the left and less to the center than Clinton.

Then, there's the media. It's well known that they lean far to the left -- that, by their own admission. I can't see how anyone who reads the papers or listens to CNN or NBC could possibly believe Hillary is getting a square deal.

So, Hillary will probably loose. The left is betting her followers will be bound to the party enough that they'll rally around Obama. I don't think that will happen. I think there will be ample resentment about how the media and special interest manipulated the coverage and, consequently, the election.

I'm laughing all the way to the polls!

At Hillary Clinton's appearance last Saturday in Indianapolis, she asked for questions. One of the randomly picked questioners in the crowd did not ask a question but instead said as follows: “When I think of Hillary Clinton, I can’t help but think of Queen Esther. You were brought to this position to make a difference and to make a change and just like Queen Esther who took a stand and did what was right for the Jews, I believe you will do what’s right for America.” I agree with the man in the crowd in Indianapolis. Senator Clinton will do what is right when she is elected President. Senator Obama does not yet have the judgment, the experience or the wisdom to be President. Go Hillary!

Hillary Clinton, in Ohio it was Beer now it's chewing gum what next?

Posted by: Lookup | Mar 31, 2008 1:43:07 PM

Yeah,

I saw/heard that Queen Esther comment. And lo and behold Mrs. Clinton knew all about Queen Esther and went on to further mention how this is one of her favorite books in the Bible and Esther's courage. Please, if this wasn't a planted question I don't what is.

Hillary Clinton will be history (gone from the race) in 60 days.

to PeterM -- "style, class, intelligence", and this is how you describe the Obama family? Are you kidding me? Michele Obama, who says that this is the first time she is proud of her country, who wrote a vile, racist thesis. BH Obama, who associates with a racist, anti semitic, anti American pastor, and refuses to dissociate with him or that church? THIS is the style, class, and intelligence you want to bring in the white house? Good Lord, have Americans just gone nuts????

Hillary Clinton will raise much less money than Obama when their respective campaigns report.

Obama is a pathological liar. he lied about his knowledge of Wright. He lied about his family's history in a Selma Alabama speech. He lied about his father's association with Kennedy. LIES, LIES, LIES. All of you are getting on Hillary, and yet you seem to forget that Obama has a long long long pinochio nose.

Posted by: Justice | Mar 31, 2008 1:54:12 PM

OH PLEASE PETER. I DONT WANT A PRESIDENT AT A 5 AND DIME DRINKING A YUENGLING EITHER....OR BOWLING IN THAT RIDICULOUS OUTFIT. OR LYING ABOUT WHAT JOHN MCCAIN SAID ABOUT OUR PRESENCE IN IRAQ. CHANGE YOU SHOULD NOT BELIEVE IN.

I don't want a gum-chewing President.
I finally want some style and class and intelligence in the White House.
In other words, the Obama family.

Vote for Obama if you will, but we here in Massachusetts already have his twin as the governor. Deval Patrick ran on the same platform: hope and change. We fell for it. We are losing hope and there is no change. Patrick was out last week looking for a publisher in NY for his autobiography. Sound familiar? These guys are so nothing, that's why Massachusetts went for Hillary.

If you want to cure the economy, have universal health care and fund not three but FOUR major wars; (Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and IRAN) and stop inflation just print more money! Uh, wait a minute??? Doesn't that just make the problem worse? Ya think!!!

My new favorite person is Steven Reed. THANK YOU! Finally someone is speaking out for Hillary. She is not someone who just popped up out of the middle of nowhere. She has been working for the American people for YEARS and everyone is COMPLETELY forgetting about all she has done for us.

The Clintons are like annoying guests at a party that overstay their welcome.

The gum-chewing personna presented to truck-drivers is just another version of the Bosnia deception. Both examples provide insight of how manipulative the Clintons can get as they focus on each micro-demographic group.

Accents for African Americans, glass ceilings for working women, and claims of personal roots in Pennslyvania, Arkansas, Illinois, and New York. Tell them what they want to hear. There's a fine line between a tough ploitician and an outright con artist.

The definition of a con artist is someone who can perfectly imitate the actions of an honest person.

Except when you get caught in a lie.

Hillary claims she is the candidate to get us out of debt....someone better teach her how she can get out of hers first.
