McCain, Obama & Greek Drama
August 27, 2008 8:23 PM
This is getting out of hand. We noted earlier that much is being made about the Greek columns at tomorrow's venue for Senator Obama's speech. Now comes this from the McCain campaign: "Today, workers at Invesco Field are putting the final touches on the newest wonder of the modern political world -- The Temple of Obama ('The Barackopolis')...There may be some confusion among the press about the venue and appropriate dress code for Barack Obama's big speech. To help out, we wanted to provide the following tips on appropriate attire. The toga may have gone out of style centuries ago, but after Obama's temple speech tomorrow night, they’re sure to be flying off the racks."
A senior Obama campaign official replies: "I know that Sen McCain and his people have been shooting barbs about the 'opulence' of our convention from the mountaintop at Sedona at the McCain estate. I don't think it warrants a response."
And after all this -- our Jake Tapper notes that Barack Obama's appearance in Denver won't be the first convention speech "framed by Greek columns." George W. Bush accepted his own nomination in 2004 on a set with a similar neoclassical theme, with columns rising on either side of him.

Whining about set design? With all the challenges facing this country, more proof John McCain and his crowd just don't get it.
