How Good Are the Hospitals Where You Live? Type in Your Zip and Find Out

As of this morning, you can log on and find out how your local hospital matches up with ones across town or across the country. The data is gathered by the government -- death rates from heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia.
It empowers patients, but will it have a chilling effect on hospitals? Might hospitals stop taking on riskier patients in order to better their numbers?

Click on the blue text in the story above. That will take you to the USA Today article. Once there, look for On the Web and click on the blue text that says Compare hospitals in your zip code. You can figure it out from there pretty easily.

The number of cases of patients contracting SEPTIS INFECTION in a hospital should definitely be listed. People should really have this info.

Come on people, just go to the Medicare site and you can get better service and more complete help to compare hospitals. Works for me, I compared by COUNTY instead of zip code. Try it!

There are at least 7 facilities within 25 miles of my zip and I couldn't get anything. Does that mean all the patients die or none of them do!

It took me a little time to find the information. Having worked in a hospital and having had over 30 surgeries, I don't trust hospitals and some of the people who work in them.

This actually doesn't mean a thing to me.I have heard from hear say where the best hospitals are from where i live.I think that they have a higer number of patients because more people prefer to go to the best one,so naturally their going to have more cases.It really didn't tell me anything except how many medicare patients they had in non critical,and critical conditions.Your best option is to ask around if you want to know where the best hospitals and staff are,that's just my opinion.

I'm with Theresa, you all complain that the site doesn't work but if you'd spend a few moments following the lead and go to the Medicare site you'd find what you are looking for.
