Obama at Invesco: Greek Theater?

August 27, 2008 3:44 PM

_1da0715_3 World News Senior Producer Stu Schutzman from Denver:

What better place for Barack Obama to hold his coming out party than in a Greek Temple inside a football stadium. The stage is set on the 50-yard line of Denver's Invesco Field where the Broncos butt heads on any given Sunday. Senator Obama will accept his party's nomination for president at mid-field, surrounded by 75,000 adoring convention-goers who will have been already stoked to a fever pitch by a pantheon of stars: Bon Jovi, Cheryl Crow.

But in a brief tour this morning, what really caught our eye was the backdrop to his speech. It's a series of Greek columns forming what appears to be an ancient Greek temple.

The columns are of the Doric style, sturdiest and least ornate of ancient Greek architectural design circa 500 BC(give or take).

Ancient Greeks paid homage to their deity of choice in these temples which also served as testimonials to their prosperity and success in battle. They were constructed with the finest limestone and marble. The Democrats on the other hand, at least to this reporter's untrained eye, appear to have borrowed from the pre-school style, i.e.... paper mache.

Why the Greek motif? The Obama campaign says it's not Greek at all, but looks like any American state capital. Sure was Greek to me!

One year from now we can pull up archival film and laugh at the images of BHO standing, legs spread, hands on hips, in his Greek temple, accepting the frenzied adulation of the commoners below. I wonder if he studied any of the Greek tragedies during his Harvard days. I wonder if he knows how most of them ended. All show, no substance.

now we know why obama is at the stadium.
his ego wouldn't fit into the smaller
venue.

No words can express my thoughts on the ego this man has who wants to be president. The DNC and Obama are wrong, if they believe that the American people will not see through this entire foolish play they are putting on in Denver. The seal, the airplane, the visit to Paris and now this at the convention. Nothing has been said at all except building up the ego of BHM.

I am a die hard Democrate and Greek! I just don't get what the DNC is thinking or are they? Lets fuel the fire for the GOP. Simple is better with todays economy.

Obama has built himself a Temple of Doom. Or Temple of Dumb.

This pop star celebrity style will really show the American public Obama is one of them and not an elitist...haven't they learned since his poll numbers went down after the staged Germany speech? Luring kids to the park for a free concert with the leading German rock group. Another rock concert before his acceptance speech....I think they have fire works too. Wonder if they will all light matches or lighters?

Hilarious -- and right on point.

“It’’s only appropriate that Barack Obama would descend down from the heavens and spend a little time with us mere mortals when accepting the Democratic nomination in his Greek temple,” said Republican National Committee spokesman Danny Diaz.

“We would have expected to read something like this in The Onion” a McCain adviser told The New York Post.
