Obama hits Palin on Equal Pay for Equal Work

August 31, 2008 11:58 AM

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Senator Obama – for the first time – has brought up specific criticisms of Senator McCain’s new VP choice, Sarah Palin – accusing her of not supporting Equal Pay for Equal Work.

“John McCain’s new VP nominee seems like a very engaging person, a nice person,” Obama started to say during a town hall in Toledo, OH, “But I’ve got to say, she’s opposed like John McCain is to equal pay for equal work. That doesn’t make much sense to me.”

Senator Obama recalled the story he tells often: of his grandmother starting of in a secretarial pool and then working her way up the ranks to become VP of a bank.

“But even with all she accomplished, she was still passed over repeatedly because it was hard being a woman in the 60s and the 70s, being a path breaker like that,” Obama concluded, “And I’ve got two daughters and when I think about them, I say to myself, I want to make sure that those girls have exactly the same opportunities as anybody’s sons will. That’s why we’re gonna fight for equal pay for equal work.”

The Obama campaign could not provide immediate proof Palin’s opposition to Equal Pay - and instead only connected Palin to McCain’s opposition.

“Senator McCain has a clear record of opposing equal pay and as his running mate Governor Palin is tasked with promoting his agenda,” Obama spokesman Jen Psaki says.

That's why I believe McCain just handed the election to Obama.

McCain sole argument was Obama is "inexperienced". Then he goes and choses someone whose not only younger then Obama but has even less experience then Obama. She governed a town who's population is less then my old high school.

McCain could've had the republican base out no matter whom he chose as long as he/she were pro-life. But what he just lost is the Independent base.

McCain is 72 years old and has had numerous run ins with cancer. Instead of chosing someone whom he can rely on to help him govern or someone who can quickly fill in if he were to pass, he chose someone based on the politics.

McCain placed Politics before Country. He went to the extreme right rather then the middle.

And I'm absolutely positive Biden will unknowingly point this out during he and Palin's first VP debate.

And from what I've heard and seen so far on different blogs with ACTUALLY Hillary supporters this isn't falling out to well with them. You can't just put a skirt on a women and expect every women to vote for her especially if this women is so pro-life to the extent where it doesn't matter if the women was raped.

And now McCain has to defend his choice. I have a feeling deep inside McCain regrets chosing her.

She must support his views. They are Soul Mates according to John.

Like not all women, and not all Christian Groups buy into Ms Palin either. They are questioning McCain's judgment.

Oh really Obama? You didn't even bother giving Hillary a vetting and YOU have the NERVE to critisize someone ELSE? rubber-glue she's rubber, you're glue. what you say bounces off her and sticks to you. lol this is fun to watch.

She probably goes home after work and fixes dinner and does all the laundry. Pays the bills, runs the errands, and takes out the trash.Does all the housework and takes care of the kids. Then hands her paycheck over to her husband. Who in turn gives her her allowance. After all that's women's work, right? Why on earth would any woman want to vote for someone that could potentially drag us back in time 20 years. The theory that a man is the bread winner of the family and therefore should make more is archaic. So if a man is divorced or unmarried, shouldn't he make less than the single mother raising her children alone?

Obama didn't even give Hillary a chance at the job to pay her less for it.

It is all how the media wants to play it -- Quote from Bill Maher (a noted liberal)

"I think there is a problem, though, with the media gushing over him too much. I don't think he thinks that he's all that, but the media does. I mean, the coverage after, that I was watching, from MSNBC, I mean these guys were ready to have sex with him....It's embarrassing."

If equal pay for equal work, bet Michelle would loose 1/3 of her paycheck every month. Her pay was based on her husband being elected senator than shoveling big money to the University of Chicago. Someone should check out her pay scale for her position with like positions of responsibility. INTERESTING. Yea, they certainly benefited big time with his elected position and political clout.

Wow, when a strong conservative women speaks her mind the Liberals do nothing other then whine. Lets talk the issues not make up stories. Tell us the truth about Obama's relationships with the likes of Bill Ayres. Tell us the truth about redistribution of wealth. Tell me how I am going to pay for this so call health care? Sounds more like a way Big Business and Unions can get out of paying for health care all together.

Michelle Obama -excessive pay for less work. Bring it on Obama.

"The Obama campaign could not provide immediate proof Palin’s opposition to Equal Pay" And Obama complains when he's called a muslim. Usually it's the bloggers on here spreading lies, not the candidate himself. Same old same old.

Posted by: good lord | Aug 31, 2008 12:24:22 PM

McCain handed the election - to himself.
He just fired up the conservative base and that's all we need. Combined with the Hillary supporters crossing over - we're set!

Is this the "new" kind of politics that Democrat Obama is advocating to America?

Lying about the other VP candidate's record??!!?

Here's the core of Barack Obama's entire gutter-ball accusation:

"The Obama campaign could not provide immediate proof Palin’s opposition to Equal Pay - and instead only connected Palin to McCain’s opposition."

Maybe the DNC should have given more thought to giving Hillary Clinton equal pay for equal work, before they hand-picked their Presidential candidate.

And maybe Barack Obama himself should have given more thought to giving Hillary Clinton equal pay for equal work, before he hand-picked Joe Biden as his VP candidate.

Barack Obama attacking Sarah Palin for not supporting women? Puh-leez!

He already tried this baloney in the Democratic primaries against Hillary.

Results:
She won more votes and more battleground states, and more red states, even as the DNC was calling for her to get out of the race.

Stupid is as stupid does.

I LOVE Sarah Palin.
She brings an actual record of reform, bucking her own party, and working with the other party to get things done.

Is there something Democrats have against that?

Barack Obama promises to be a uniter, not a divider.

Sarah Palain IS a uniter, not a divider.

I'm concerned about where we will be 2 years into the presidency if John McCain wins and he gets ill at 74 and she has to take over a crisis at 3:00am will she be able to lead and fight against someone like Putin? Or will he just see her as a hockey mom with a skirt and brush her aside?

Posted by: concerned at 3:00am | Aug 31, 2008 12:25:29 PM

Poor Obama - you can tell they didn't see this coming.

They were all set to make history, and now electing McCain will make even better history!

It's a woman's turn - they are after all, half the population.

Whooo hooo! This is fun.

Well, you can't blame Obama for going into attack mode.

Obama's keepers chose Old Joe Biden (another "old uncle") to keep watch over him while McCain chose a woman who can think for herself.

Anybody But Obama...

Concerned, I'm concerned with an Obama presidency on DAY ONE. Who cares about two years down the road, we're all concerned with Jan 21, 2009 if Obama wins.

Nice try though. But your "point" is hilarious.

Obama didn't even give Hillary a chance at the job to pay her less for it.

You were not/are not a Hillary supporter because NONE of US are as stupid as you are!

I'm glad Miki | Aug 31, 2008 4:17:50 PM
is here to keep my faith that some of the bloggers are still spreading the lies and not leaving all the heavy lifting to Obama.

Posted by: good lord | Aug 31, 2008 12:28:43 PM

Wow. That article listed above on voddiebaucham almost makes me want to vote for Ms. Palin. Almost. But I won't.
