Surge At Home?

August 01, 2008 12:55 PM

Are neighborhoods in this country in need of an Iraq-style "surge"?

Ap_mccain_080801_blog

ABC's David Wright checks in after Senator McCain's appearance at the Urban League.

"Answering a question about his approach to combatting crime, John McCain suggested that military strategies currently employed by US troops in Iraq could be applied to high crime neighborhoods here in the US. McCain called them tactics 'somewhat like we use in the military...You go into neighborhoods, you clamp down, you provide a secure environment for the people that live there, and you make sure that the known criminals are kept under control. And you provide them with a stable environment and then they cooperate with law enforcement.' The way he described it, his approach sounded an awful lot like the surge. As part of his argument, McCain praised the crime-fighting efforts of former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani; Urban League president Marc Morial countered that while New York did experience a drop in crime under Giuliani, there were several major instances of police misconduct. To which McCain promised aggressive prosecution of civil rights violations and a Justice Department free from political cronyism."

Man, are you people nuts? Have you forgotten what FREEDOM IS? Can you say police state? I guess the second "never ending" depression is here, gotta control the slaves when there are no jobs, no food, and worthless money. Get ready folks. lock and load. This isn't about crime ( poverty MAKES crime ) it's about controlling us during the shift into communism. The fence is not for the illegals it's for us. It's to keep US IN. This is all being done on purpose. Wide open borders, giant loss of manufacturing base and devalued currency. These are the things that brings a country to it's KNEES. These traitors in DC are passing these laws to protect themselves, I mean come on, Patriot Act, FISA, with this morgage bailout bill, they piggybacked a provision in to moniter all non cash transactions thru the IRS, that means checks, money orders, paypal, credit and debit transactions ect. You think this troop thing is for your benefit? Get REAL, remember we no longer have Possee Comantatus, that means the military CAN be turned on the citizens of the USA. Welcome to communism/facism.

And how about we just declare martial law and burn what little is left of the Constitution while we're at it?

How about it McCain? Would you like to be dictator?

The sad thing, Obama isn't any better.

Is Mccain purposely trying to be a liberal? I could see a Democrat coming up with this idea and even prasing it as "necessary for society," but it's a sad day when a so called Republican comes up with such garbage.

there are no more Liberals in American politics. Democrats are Socialists, and the NeoCons that have hijacked the Republican party are what can be properly classified as Corporatists (Fascists)

The only real liberals left in this country are Libertarians and Ron Paul Republicans. You can't be a Liberal and advocate big Government. More Government means more regulation and more regulation means less liberty. Ergo, by definition a true Liberal cannot support Big Government, much less champion its growth.

Jay, I think you're referring to Classic Liberals, which are indeed Libertarians. Todays Liberals, however, are the complete opposite of Libertarians. I think it was FDR who hijacked the word "liberal" and ever since it has referred to the Left (ie big government, do everything for me nanny state). It's very similar to what neo-conservatives are currently doing to the word and the movement that was once Conservatism.

All hail the Police State! Any who resist will be shot on sight, and any who voice their opinions against the Leviathan will be subdued and brought to prison camps to be tortured endlessly! The military will be walking through the street with AK-47's and full body armor shooting everyone that comes out of their house, and you brainwashed nuts watching television will be cheering them on. Military law is not going to solve any of our problems. Get informed and protect yourselves; who is going to save you from the criminal cops breaking down your door even though you have done nothing wrong? It is coming down to that; let me assure you.

Are any of you really advocating a military "surge" on our own cities? Wow..go back to sleep. The new world order will take good care of you.

"OK"
Does anyone remember Kent State?
Put the Military in the streets and death by mistake will be our future. Have we in the US, no other way to stop crime(excuse) answer: use the Police!
Believe you me, if I see Military coming to my Home it will be time for me to take my own action and meet my maker.
It will be over for us and Big brothers Department of F.E.A.R. would of won.
(Federal Eradication And Retaliation)
This is the next Evil Department to come about, just like HOMELAND Security Dept.
Homeland sounds to much like the Fatherland (Nationalist Socialist Party)
Whats that spell NAZI.

I'm sure our Founding Fathers would love McCain's idea of fasict police-state with soldiers on every corner. Oh yeah, that's what liberty is all about!

I knew we would get bigger more bloated centralized government with Obama or McCain.

Where is the party for conservatives in 08?

Who do you think is training the soliders in Iraq? NYPD officers.

"Lockdown" operations are common in places like Bed-Stuy. They roll in a Mobile Command Center for a month or two, flood the streets with police, bright halogen lights, cop cars sitting on every corner, etc.

It works, too. Sucks, but works.

We've had military intervention to stop social madness before, and we managed to make it work.
The race riots in New York City comes to mind, as well as when it came time to give blacks equal rights in Alabama, and nobody was crying "police state" then.
You people have the intellectual life of children, with your "police state" rhetoric, as well as a complete ignorance of American history.
Bring on the military. Destination: South Central.
