VP Madness (continued)
August 29, 2008 9:03 AM
With all eyes on Dayton, OH, where John McCain will make the announcement, some questions:
Is Mitt Romney really out? (And by the way -- is he in Massachusetts? California? Or headed for Ohio?)
What about Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty -- who tells local radio -- "All I can say is that I'm not going to be there (Dayton) and I plan on being at the State Fair and so you can draw your conclusions from that"?
(Thank you, Governor).
Over to the pro-choice short list. Joe Lieberman IS in Dayton. Tom Ridge may be headed that way. Or not.
And how about some dark horses? Gov Sarah Palin of Alaska? (CNN and others said a private plane from Anchorage had flown to Dayton; our Kate Snow says Palin wasn't on board -- and that she's at home in Wasilla, AK. Former Bush budget director Rob Portman -- remember him? He may also be en route to Dayton.
Kay Bailey Hutchison? GOP consultant Ken Duberstein told the NYTimes her icy relationship with Senator McCain made that -- his word -- "meshugenah" (Yiddish for crazy).
OK, Ken -- but this is all kind of meshugenah, no?

It's going to be Ridge.

Democrat strategists are totally stressed out that McCain's VP might be Sarah Palin. Watch all the Hillary supporters flock to that ticket!

You might not be yawning if he picks someone who will strengthen his ticket against Obama... Obama's followers better not get over-confident...you might get a surprise come November. You might want to take your passion and join the campaign for your candidate....in the end, the voters, not the bloggers will decide this.

If McCain's advisers were not able to talk him out of Lieberman, that campaign has some serious problems.
Ridge - All the progressive 527s need to do is put on auto-repeat one of those clips of him during the 2004 election stupidly trying to explain the elevated terror alerts.
Romney - There are so many negatives with this guy that Michigan can't possibly be worth the hassle. Or, can it?
I guess Pawlenty's out now. That surprised me.

I'm ex-democrat voting for McCain.

I don't think the Hillary supporters would flock to McCain if his VP pick is a woman. It wasn't just that Hillary is a woman, it's that it was Hillary. She paid her dues. I think a woman pick for VP would backfire.

I just heard that dan quayle is headed to Dayton.

Oh sure, pretend it wouldn't help McCain. Even a Daily Kos poll admits it would help.

i'm a hillary supporter, and i don't intend to vote for obama. but i'm not sure that palin would draw me to mccain. one of the reasons i dont like obama is that he's too inexperienced. palin is even less experienced. if mccain dies - we'd have a virtually unknown, first-term governor and former mayor of a tiny alaska town as vp.

tracy lynn - internet polls are highly unreliable.
Posted by: tony | Aug 29, 2008 10:15:17 AM
yeah If Palin had been picked that would have been good for Obama...
bad for mccain
just picking a woman does not make for a good person to be an aging heartbeat away from dealing with the massive problems on the world stage.
That would be a horrific choice...
he would pick Kay Bailey Hutchinson before Palin ...a new governor of a state with no big egonomic issues...no diverstiy of any issues.
horrific choice.
Mccain has bad option for the country, bad options for himself...
or bad options for both.

She has had executive experience as governor, (when she was mayor, she cut her own pay) and she's a reformer. The people of Alaska love her; her approval rating is in the 80 percent area. If her experience is questioned, it reflects back on Obama's resume, and he is at the top of the ticket. After all, I thought this was a CHANGE election, not about experience.
