Warning -- Big Netflix Meltdown
August 14, 2008 4:07 PM
This just crossing the wires. A third of you who use Netflix may be out of luck. The World Newser will stay on the story. Promise.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Online DVD rental pioneer Netflix Inc Thursday worked feverishly to fix the most severe outage in its history, as disc shipments to a third of its 8.4 million customers came to a halt due to a shipping system problem. Red mailers with the Netflix name have become ubiquitous for many Americans who pick films to watch on the Internet and then get DVDs in the mail, usually a day or two later. Advertisements litter the Web with trial offers. However, Netflix shipped no DVDs on Tuesday. It shipped some on Wednesday but has shipped none so far on Thursday.

Stuff like this is exactly why I cancelled my Netflix account. It happens more than what is reported. That and the fact that mysteriously whatever movie you want to see is NEVER available for months, not weeks, months at a time. I tried the downloadable service too (VUDU). ultimately, now I just scape my pennies together and go buy whatever movie I want to see. At least then I can sell it on Ebay when I'm done.

This is only the second time Netflix has had a shipping problem in the two years that I've been a customer. The first time it happened, I was given a credit on my account for the two extra days it took the company to ship a DVD to me. I've already been notified via email that they will be crediting my account for this hiccup as well.

This happened only once before with my account, and they credited it, so no biggie...I can still instantly view movies I want to see this weekend...or I can actually go outside and enjoy the summer...

They sent an e-mail saying they are having problems. With online video watching it isn't a big thing! I love netflix! The turn around, for me at least, has been much faster than blockbuster.

I got an email notification from Netflix earlier today -- and then this afternoon, two movies showed up in the mail!
So, I guess our account wasn't one of the problem accounts.
