Does Sarah Palin HAVE to talk to the Press? What do you Think?

September 05, 2008 3:39 PM

Ap_palin6_080903_main Named to the ticket a week ago.  Introduced to 37 million viewers through a convention speech on Wednesday.  She's spoken at various McCain campaign events.  But still, Sarah Palin has steered clear of reporters and their questions.  Speakers at the Republican convention this week bashed the press and their handling of Palin's family story.  At what point does a candidate for higher office have a responsibility to take questions...to interact with reporters?  Thoughts?

Can an ABC journalist go back and find the longest Obama went between his "press availabilities?" I think it was a fairly extensive length of time.

At the same time, he had earlier been interviewed and did, indeed, answer questions. (remember when the Chicago reporters chased him down and made him answer questions about Rezko? He answered 8 and then said something plaintive, like, "give me a break. I just answered, like, 8 questions." Then he ran away.)

And yes, I believe Palin needs to talk with reporters as well. I don't believe it necessarily has to be this minute.

Whether she HAS to talk to the press is beside the point. I'm sure she is eager to talk to them, and to explain her views and actions she would like to take. The lady is not one of the old career politicians that are well versed in talking for an hour or two, and say nothing. She has decided to take action to help the country, and will do so if given the chance. The leftist media is trying to discredit her in any way they can, and they have been campaigning for Senator Obama from the start. Truth, honesty, and fair play, mean nothing to the media of today. Most of them are interested only in selling a book.

YES. Unless she wants to leave us with the impression that she is only sarcastic, negative, and condescending. And that she likes to ridicule community organizers. And be-little the historic nomination of the first African-American of a major party.
That's all we have to go on at the moment based on her performance at the convention.

I thought she was supposed to be tough.

==She doesn't have to talk to the press. And, in turn, I don't have to vote for her.==

However, you weren't gonna vote for her anyway. So, so what?

==It will come out what a scam she is...==

Even if you gotta make it up, or make a bigger deal outta something than it is.

John McCain may be afraid to let the press question Palin, but his biggest fear should be what happens if she doesn't talk.

PLEEEEEZZZE!!! If this individual is in line to potentially be president of this country, i want her to answer the same probing questions and be accountable for her positions as any other candidate would. When she accepted the offer, she put her life and family under the microscope just as Barack Obama and Joe Biden did. We don't know very much about her, so YES, she should be asked about issues that she may ultimately be dealing with. The voters of the country need to have EYES WIDE OPEN here. We know an awful lot about McCain, Obama and Biden. Sneaking this virtual unknown in at the last minute does not exclude her from scrutiny. In my mind, it makes me more suspicious and curious about her. I don't care about whether or not she drives to work or what she wears, I want to know how she might handle an international crisis with North Korea and the potential of engagement. I want to know exactly how she plans to undo the gigantic mess her party created. I want to know if her husband loves the United States since he was a member of an organization that actively sought to secede from it. I want to know how she intends to convert her "experience" of managing a state with a population half the size of my city (San Diego)to managing the United States. I want to hear more about her attitude towards the role God would make in her administration. Mitt Romney had to answer that one, so did Obama and McCain. I want to know which books she told the librarian in Wasilla to ban. I want to know how she can defend her "abstinance only" attitude while her daughter is shopping for a wedding dress. There are LOTS of questions that need answers. She said yes, she opened the door. I think the person is a political lightweight and I would love to have her prove me wrong. So far I've heard nothing that makes her a viable choice any more than my VERY smart sister who has 3 kids and runs a school district in another state. I have a pretty savvy neighbor who is a personnel manager for a large corporation, coaches little league and barbeques a mean pork loin. He's got some pretty good ideas about how to change the country, too. Why was this person THE BEST THEY COULD FIND...? I think the answers to our questions may be illuminating.

Absolutely.

If she could potentially be the Vice President some day she should ask questions so we get to know her views.

She needs to be on Meet the Press.

If she isn't ready for primetime than how is she going to be ready for the Vice Presidency.

Lets not forget how the press trumped Obama over Hillary and she was democrat.

Do any of you really think a republican is going to get a fair shake from most the so-called mainstream media?

Many of these so-called professional mainstream journalists were slinging dirt at her before she even introduced herself at the RNC.

Nobody with critical rational mind will ever believe Sarah Palin will get a fair shake from the kind of media the world hasn't seen since fascism ruled in Germany.

Where is the rush forSarah Palin to talk to the press? Press and media knows everything about her and reported exhaustively about her. They know and reported more than she knows about herelf. What additional information press will get out of her? The press and the media is pure racist and sexist.
Oprah won't even consider to sit with her because of her color. What a hypocrisy?

I hope to never hear from her again.

Of course. the more she opens her mouth and demonstrates her cold, uncaring attitude to the rest of America, the more votes Obama will get.

Posted by: community organizer | Sep 5, 2008 4:13:01 PM

PALIN ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT HAVE TO TALK TO THE PRESS.
THE PRESS IS OBAMAMANIACS AND THEY ATTACKED HER FOR OBAMA .SOME STILL ATTACK HER AS A WAY TO SAVE OBAMA.
WELL,SHE MADE IT CLAER SHE IS LIABLE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND NOBODY IN THE MEDIA.
GET A LIFE.. SHE HAS THINGS TO DO..

TJ, THE CLINTONITE, NOW VOTING MCCAIN/PALIN 08--- AND I DONT CARE WHAT DNC TELLS HILLARY TO TELL ME.

Posted by: TJ | Sep 5, 2008 4:13:05 PM

News organizations don't represent me. I represent me. She has to talk to me, not to reporters who, it has been shown already, are in the tank for NObama.

It's like "The View" where there are three Libs against one Conservative. The Libs aren't treated as one, rather three, and, so, after one Lib speaks, another Lib speaks, then the other, and only then does the Conservative get to speak and try to respond to the three Libs. So, it's her one answer to three other answers, and it appears, to the observer, that the Libs have the edge since the Conservatives cannot hope to answer everything three Libs say. The Conservative has three Libs coming at her from all sides, like a pack of dogs.

No, she doesn't have to talk to the press. But John McCain has teed her up to be Vice President and she expects to be she needs to tell us who she is and what her policies are.
But she doesn't have to talk to the press - and we don't have to vote for her. The Republican Party seemed to think she was brilliant because she could smile and speak at the same time -that's training for Miss America; not Madame Vice President.

She does have to talk to press. We have a right to know what she has to say if she will be vice president. President/vice president is a job that will affect everyone. How can we hire her for the job if she hasn't interviewed for the job? Besides why wouldn't she want to talk to the press? She has plenty to say when she's the only one doing the talking.
They don't want her to talk to the press because she doesn't know what's going on outside Alaska.
They'll fill her with all of this information for her to regurgitate, then let her talk to someone who will go very easy on her.
