and he lied

straight to his face (or phone)

that is why he is so upset.

Mccain boldly lied to him.

does this surprise anyone?

David Letterman ??? Come now. He's a washed up old has-been. Nobody cares what he says. He's nowhere near the class act Johnny Carson was. Can you ever imagine Johnny making these sorts of comments about the future president of the United States. Letterman is just another Hollywood-type with the IQ of a raisin.

More media censorship ABC ?

Comedians and talk shows such as the View seem to be the ones that are brave enough to call this campaign out. This whole "suspending my campaign" bit is nothing but a ploy for McCain to control the debate schedule and take credit for a potential bipartisan agreement. Never mind, that Obama called McCain first to propose a joint statement where they shared their common opinions.

Go Dave!

Actually, that was some of the best Letterman I've seen in years! He was feisty and calling out McCain and Palin in all the right ways.
I mean, how bright can the McCain campaign be if they cancel with him but go on Couric's show?!? They did realize that they belong to the SAME NETWORK, right? The point where they have the internal network feed on and McCain's getting his make-up done is priceless!
This is yet one more example of the lies, mistruths, and overall incompetence John McCain has come to represent. Elect him at your peril, Americans!

Jill Mitchell, David Letterman is in NY not Hollywood. Presidential candidates never went on Carson. If the campaigns want to use the talk shows, they should expect this sort of thing.

I saw the show and Letterman is respected in his own right. It doesnt matter if he was Jerry Springer, the point is that he call ed the man and lied. There was no reason to do that if he had other fish to fry he should have said that and not lie and say he was getting on a plane to go somewhere and then be doing an interview. Its direspectful to anyone that plans their business around what you are doing.

McBush is a Old Buzzard

Letterman lost his credibility who demonstrated that he is an average joe by not understanding the gravity of issues and go bad mouthing in public.

Posted by: Tim | Sep 25, 2008 2:18:16 PM

it has not struck mr letterman that due to the disdainful treatment of palin/mccain over the coarse of this campaign season the hollywood elitist folks/snl/msn/oprah/the view etc... have lost relevance and respect.
watch the ratings begin to fall dramatically by next season.
you cannot insult with partisan furor one candidate or party over the other without insulting 50% of the population. ask oprah and other publications who have already seen their subscriptions collapse by close to 50%.
so cry me a river letterman you don't matter anymore.

Posted by: colorado | Sep 25, 2008 2:21:18 PM

What is there to understand... HE LIED! He lied to the man to his freakin face. How would you feel if someone disrecpected you that was and lied! YOU WOULD BE pissed is what you would be...so please..say what you want..McCain was dead wrong for this..again.

Posted by: Tg | Sep 25, 2008 2:21:39 PM

Mr. Letterman told the truth. McCain is our War Hero, America's War Hero.
He can do it all. If McCain is busy
this Friday night (only 2hrs??)Ms. Palin
can cover him in the debate. I'm sure
if she's qualified to be VP, she can
handle a an easy debate.

Letterman - You were awesome!!

i think bill clinton said it best last night paraphrasing here; he said you cannot expect to win people over he was referencing (hillary supporters and the undecided) by insulting them. i agree.
i am both a clinton supporter and an undecided. yes we do exist, and no we haven't made up our minds 48% of us haven't, and yes we could determine the outcome of this election.

Ms. Mitchell, If David Letterman is so washed up, how is that you're paying attention? Presidents are elected to work for the American people. They are not Kings who after the coronation rule the people. It is a positive sign that there are some in the media who will challenge the recent mindset by Americans allowing themselves to be led down a path of national disintegration by the charlatans in and near the white house.

Posted by: frankd | Sep 25, 2008 2:47:36 PM

Yeah, I agree. Cry Me A River, Dave. You weren't funny last year and this year you're turning into Lenny Bruce, more obsessed with your own problems and agendas than the act.

Somewhat like Obama: a man too preoccupied with his career to do the job he was hired to do.

Posted by: len | Sep 25, 2008 3:45:56 PM

Is Letterman a part of the media? Thought he was an entertainer.

Posted by: zeke | Sep 25, 2008 3:47:01 PM

Zeke, check the definition of media... and then make a point.

Posted by: frankd | Sep 25, 2008 3:57:41 PM

Letterman is so deep in Obama's pocket he doesn't know when it's daylight or dark outside.

Movie and TV so called stars are overpaid pampered idiots.

Posted by: Mike | Sep 25, 2008 6:14:01 PM

McCain decided to return to D.C. and skip Letterman's show. GOOD.

Why go on his show and let him attack you. You know that's what Letterman was going to do.

How can the messiah lose when the news media, movie and TV stars, are supporting and protecting him.

A year from now people will wake up and realize they made a terrible mistake.

Posted by: Bill | Sep 25, 2008 6:21:30 PM

The majority of news reporters for ABC, CBS, NBC, Associated Press, New York Times, Newsweek, Washington Post supporting Obama. They are falling over themselves to praise everything he says and does.

During the primaries Senator Clinton and her supporters pleaded with the news media to investigate Obama. They refused. Instead we were bombarded with feel good Obama stories.
