Report Warns Votes Will Be Suppressed in Key Swing States

October 14, 2008 11:30 AM

Ap_vote_oh_080304_mn ABC's Law and Justice Unit reports:

A study just released by a reputable voting rights group called the Advancement Project, reveals that in swing states like Virginia, Ohio and Missouri some predominantly African American precincts have far fewer machines per voter than do nearby white precincts.  It's a situation that threatens to drive down the minority vote and skew the election's outcome during a year when unprecedented numbers of blacks have a powerful incentive to flock to the polls. The report also criticizes many counties and cities in those states for lacking enough voting machines, privacy booths and poll workers generally to handle all the voters expected on Election Day.

One of the harshest criticisms of the 2000 and 2004 elections was that lack of voting machines caused interminable lines and low turnout in minority precincts in Florida and other battle ground states. So you would think that this year, with record registration among minorities, the states would be prepared. Wrong.

Correction, the states are prepared! That is the longstanding plan for the GOP. Same way they do it every election year.
Take out some of the machines from the Democratic leaning districts. Lock them in warehouses or transfer them to the Republican leaning areas.
Make it as easy as possible for Republcians to vote (30 minutes or less). Make it next to impossible for Democrats to vote.

There have been entire books written recently on how voters are cheated.

I recommend "how to rig an election", Confessions of a former Republican operative who did jail time for some of his voter suppression schemes.

The comments clearly display the Republican attitude of entitlement. They need not wait - they are white and rich. But ....OOOOh, Acorn registered someone more than once - (even though they didn't vote - which is a different matter all together) but ooooh - they tried to get the poor to believe that their voice might actually be heard - oh nooooo!

And now - even in the face of every poll around saying Barack is way ahead - with only 10% of Americans saying we are heading in the right direction - they are whining about the ginned up notion that the only way they can loose is if the Dems "steal it". Same delusional behavior we have seen for the past 8 years.

samhiguchi,

Wait in line? Wait in line for 6-8 hours like they did in 2004?

IS THAT YOUR SOLUTION?

You are a Republican. That is for sure!

Chuck - nobody's listening to that garbage anymore and nobody cares. Waste your time if you want to but that's all you're doing - wasting your time.

Where's ABC's coverage on ACORN? For that matter CNN, CBS (forget NBC and MSNBC (they're jokes)

The media is once again ignoring the debacle with ACORN, and now decides to run a article on voter suppression!!

What a joke.

PA Democrats for McCain

Why don't they just let Jesse Jackson and his teams go out and mark the ballots for these poor folks? Gee, he's done that before. I like better what Clarence Thomas once said........"I resent having my politics assigned to me because of my race. I am a free man in America and I choose how I vote." Sadly, black Americans are enslaved by the Democrats, who only throw them a scrap or two just to placate them for election days. I've met some who have broken away from the Democrats and choose their own paths. These good folks have realized that by removing the floor of security, they also destroy the ceiling of limitations.

How's the guy in Cleveland doing these days? You know - the guy who was paid in cigarettes to sign 73 forms for Acorn?

neo-cons are desperate to stay in power and shove their antiquated beliefs down our throats.

I have a hunch people are going to wait for this election. It's too important. Too bad Republican posters don't seemed to be outraged at the discussion of voter suppression. You'd think a party whose motto is Country First would be outraged by something so unpatriotic. Does patriotism really just mean wearing American flag shirts from Walmart that were made in China?

Susie,

The false voter registrations (which occur on both sides in every election) are and WERE caught by the screening process all voter registration applications go through.

I have served as an election judge, and I can tell you, no one named "Mickey Mouse" gets to vote.

This entire ACORN story is a smokescreen fanned by Republicans to keep stories like this one about voter suppression out of the public eye, and to pave the way for challenges to election results they don't like

Remember, it was Republican George W. Bush, not a Democrat, who was appointed President by the Supreme Court as the result of a legal challenge.

Puuuhhleaze....what a none issue! We've been able to vote for wekks here in Ohio, there is also absentee voting. I don't care where you go, after work or very early in the morning you will have to wait. Even in my small town of 1,500

Yes, their motto is COUNTRY FIRST....What they neglect to mention is what that means to them.
It means if their power is threatened in any way, then they are willing to destroy and take down the entire COUNTRY FIRST!

Unfortunately this is just another ploy like "caging" that the Republicans are promoting to turn people off.
It isn't a matter of only waiting, but deleting people from the voting rolls who are legal voters, has laready happened.
Fair is fair, just sit back and let the votes tell the truth. Why do people think they have to cheat? WHAT A SHAME....

May be the neighborhoods with more machines are paying more taxes. Pay more taxes and get more machines. Of course, don't count the dead and the same person 73 times to come up with your population density. Also, show the same eagerness to server this country and not just to complain about this country.

Marcus...are you referring to Obama?

Posted by: formerhillary | Oct 14, 2008 12:16:41 PM

You want to talk stealing election, here in our District ,there were two Democrats running in the Primary. Well the wrong one won,so the Party Bosses threw out the Vote and But there Man in.

Nice try to discourage Obama's supporters from voting. Not at all surprised. There will be voter fraud this year, whether from ACORN or other sources, on both sides. I hope it is all discovered and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, again, on both sides. We need an honest election. And to those of you who just have to smear Obama cause you got nothing else, and cannot stand the thought of him winning this election - too darn baaaaadddddd. We had to put up with an administration whom we Dems. detested for 8 years (Bush/Cheney), now its your turn!!!!! Get over it.

I understand some Marxists want ACORN to register dead people and the same people 73 times and let them vote. But, you have to be eligible to vote before you are allowed to vote. Don't like this? Go to Cuba. Castro will make sure you have no problem voting for the Marxist and Marxist alone.

McCain and Palin are the joke of the year. He cannot decide which side he wants to affliliate with, and she is the pot calling the kettle black. I feel kind of sorry for McCain. He looks like a lost soul who has the "angel of death" (in lipstick) going against everything good he used to stand for.
