Touring The Battleground States -- Intensity Riding High Among Voters
October 09, 2008 5:12 PM
ABC's Stu Schutzman from aboard the World News "Battleground Bus Tour"...blogging from the shores of Lake Michigan:
Welcome to travels with Charlie Thursday edition. In contrast to Steinbeck, we seem to be getting a more optimistic impression of the people we've met along the way so far this week and unlike Steinbeck we're not traveling with a French Poodle (that would be Charley). But as Steinbeck described many Americans he encountered as uninformed and unconnected to any national theme; we are discovering just the opposite; people who are focused intently on the situation the country is in and on the men who claim to have the solution. Barack Obama in Indianapolis yesterday and John McCain this morning in Milwaukee both tried to make the case they were the one to get us out of this fix. Both interviews, done on our bus and a little less buttoned up, give voters the chance, we hope, to cut through some of the white noise of campaign speeches and ads and slogans. The bus has proved to be an excellent venue for that providing a setting for more conversation, less spin and fewer talking points.
Here's my own spin on one contrast I noticed between the two campaigns; yesterday before the interview, the Obama staff poked their heads in the bus door, took a quick look at our traveling set and said "neat". Today, two very nervous McCain campaign staffers peppered us with questions mostly about the camera angles, the color temperature of the lights and how "hot" the background would be.
After the interview we headed south to Racine, Wisconsin. The setting here on Lake Michigan is really beautiful. Tomorrow we drive west to our last stop, Davenport Iowa. Travels with Charlie…wish I'd thought of it first.

From the standpoint of the “media” it appears that Barack Obama will be the next President and has anyone noticed that the Stock Market is plummeting, sinking into the abyss. The people (and it does not take an economist) know that the Obama tax and redistribution policies will destroy jobs, wages, stocks in retirement accounts. Obama’s polices will make economic conditions in America much worse and this is clear and they are beginning to remove their money as Obama pulls ahead in the polls. It’s over for America with Obama at the helm.

Ann, maybe the market is plummeting because McCain and Palin have turned their campaign negative and have chosen attack, distortion, lies and slander instead of dealing with the issues facing America. They may not like Obama's policy plans, but then those are the only plans being offered.

Ann: If "Obama’s polices will make economic conditions in America much worse" then I would really hate to see where the McCain/Palin policies will take us, since George Bush alreay has us pretty low already.
I agree with jgonzalez - Please leave if it's so bad, leave the rest of us here with Obama to bring this country back to what it was before GWB and the Republicans took it over.

well Olly ,its getting to be somewhat less stressful the more i see mr obama crushing mccain. i know that soon, republicans will get a payback that has been coming since the civil war...
so ,if youre a republican get ready for some major changes.painful changes. new long lasting laws that make the things you and your moronic republican buddies have been doing illegal . different (democratic appointed) regulators to oversee wall st and the rest of the private financial sector. governmental watchdogs will be the order of the day...
if this sounds like hell to you , you must be a republican and truly you would be well to leave now before the democratic/liberal/socialist tsunami rolls over you...LEAVE!!!DONT COME BACK!!!BYE!!

relation to it. You are no better then any of the other left wingers. I thought you were better then this.
Obama is nothing but another Chicago
Hack politician. You and the rest of the irresponsible left wing media have helped elect a puppet of the left wing extereme . No wonder T.V. news is loosingits audience.

bah, I'm just quoting you:
"democratic/liberal/socialist/tsunami???
Wow, someone finally admitted it.
Obama IS a socialist.
Aren't tsunamis usually in Indonesia
and places like that?
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Obama could go there.
Thanks for the info.
Very helpful.

yep. socialism in context is better than capitalism unrestrained. even the supposed prototypical republican teddy roosevelt knew that.
yes ,start the mccarthyisms all over again...pinkos ,reds, commies ,socialists...booga booga?
the only trouble with your ubiquitous republican hyperbole and rhetorical laden "booga booga" scare tactics is that the american voter doesnt care anymore WHAT its called ...as long as its NOT republican bred led or driven!
they have had more than plenty of republican "leadership" ,just watch them tell the world that on 11/04.
just watch...and love it or leave it!
STICK A FORK IN THE REPUBLICANS ...THEY ARE DONE!!

Will the media bother to go after Obama's association and friends?
With list of friends Obama had, I wonder he could get any clearance working for a defense contractor, how is he going to become the PRESIDENT? anyone care to ask?

"Stick a fork in the Republicans"?
- just quoting bah-
Well, I hope there won't be violence.
See you at the polls.
