Bush Calls Troops on Thanksgiving
November 27, 2008 5:09 AM
ABC News' Jennifer Duck reports: President Bush is spending his final Thanksgiving as president at Camp David with family and friends. He made his traditional call to troops overseas wishing them a Happy Thanksgiving.
"Thanksgiving is a time to think about family, and I've also been thinking about our troops overseas," President Bush said.
According to White House Press Secretary Dana Perino the president told eleven members of U.S. Armed Forces stationed all over the world, "I'm very proud of your service to our country. Thanks for stepping up and honoring your country. Thank you for your courage."
President Bush also said he is "proud" to be commander-in-chief and thanked the troops "for being out there and securing our country's future."
Receiving phone calls from the president were Staff Sergeant Kevin R. Everett, Staff Sergeant David A. “Dave” Mickem, Sergeant Paul E. Savage, Jr., Lance Corporal Levi Koski, Petty Officer First Class Corey A. Snowden, Petty Officer Second Class Ronnie C. Giordani, Senior Airman Victoria L. Drefs, Airman First Class Thomas A. “Adam” Everett, Petty Officer Third Class James Nichols, Seaman Michael “Mike” Manning, and Sergeant Shannon M. Dyer.

I thank God that George Bush is leaving office and president elect Barack Obama is about to become the president of this once great country. Thank God that the Republicans are no longer running the Federal Government..for they have run our beloved country into the ground with their stupid trickle down economics crap. I thank God for you young impressionable soldiers who are in Iraq fighting in an unjust war..it is not the soldiers fault..they are simply followint orders! Thank God that Obama would bring them home very soon and see that they are treated well when they come home..a large percentage are going to come back with Post traumatic syndrome etc. Thank you God for moving out the Republicans!

This story annoys me every year. Maybe when he leaves office he should be made to serve in Iraq. The only thing he is securing is being the worst President in the history of our country.

If anyone thinks Obama will do anything to change things, except make things worse with his higher taxes, are dumber than those that voted for him.
There is no magic wand to cure the subprime mortgage melt down enacted by Clinton. With future bailouts there will be no punishment for bad management and unions that are bankrupting auto companies. Only future deficit increase's with all his spending and promising another stimulus package that didn't work under Bush.
He could at least learn from the past if he cannot bring anything new to the table but old Clintonites, NO CHANGE there.

I think President Bush has done a wonderful job. He is truly a wonderful person. I wish him and his family a wonderful Thanksgiving.
We will miss him deeply.
I am a shame of the party that won this election. The President deserves our thanks and support like every past President. It a hard job and he is doing it to the best of their ability.

President Bush was faced with many difficulties and he handled them very well.
Our economy is on the brink to total collapse because of two factors. The sub-prime mortgage debacle and the energy crisis.
MORTGAGE CRISIS
The root cause of the the sub-prime mortgage crisis finds its beginnings during the Clinton administration when Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were turned loose to back pretty much any mortgage that came down the pike. This, “everybody deserves a house” mentality rambled along unchecked until 2003 when the Bush administration began waving the red flag. In 2004, congress took up the clarion call for increased regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
That effort was blocked, mocked, rebuffed and ridiculed by Democrats. The reason? Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were Democrat sponsored social experiments and cash cows for liberal lobbies and Democrat players. Democrats led by Barney Frank, are saying everything is just fine and it’s the oversight agency that needs looking into….Amazing!

Thank You President Bush for the courage to make difficult decisions and not governing by polls. History will prove you right. I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. I a happy retirement. I would also like to say Happy Thanksgiving to President Elect Obama and family our prayers our with you and our country. I would also like to Happy Thanksgiving to former Presidents Clinton and Bush and to all of our Troops serving our great nation.

Too bad his apology is a vapid response in comparison to the thousands of troops that have died on his crusaides as bin laden has gone free. Thanks a lot, Mr. President. Phone calls will make all of us feel much better tonight. We truly give thanks--thanks that you'll be out of the oval office on January 20.

Big contrast; Bush calls his military guys. On the same day, Obama speaks to the people.

Jwench says after he leaves office, Bush should serve in Iraq. After he leaves office he will loose his diplomatic immunity, and will be arrested for war crimes should he step outside the country.

Heck of a job George! Heck of a job. Now you'll have lots of time to read: My Pet Goat. Worst President ever! By far!

Bush is soon to leave the White House in the hands of an inexperienced "talk 'em to death" fellow who has no military experience and not much concern for same. Bush has been the most respectful and honorable president since Eisenhower.

President Bush has disappointed me in his last term in office, but I think the Country should remember that he was working with a Demoracte Congress. The President is the Head person in the Government, but Congress still has the final say in everything he does. So don't just blame President Bush the Democrate Congress is just as at fault. Maybe President Bush is right about one thing. Some people do sell their sole when they get in to policits. This country is good at blaming the other guy. Let's face it we can blame ourselves for the crappy state of this Country. After all we elected him and the idit that's replacing him. So in four years if the country is still in crappy shape don't blame Obama you elected him too. So day the people of this country will wake-up and let a third party have a chance to do something. Quit voting party lines. I have voted Republican for many years this voted Democrate and man was I sorry for that. This time I tried Independent. I didn't care for my parties choose so I had the balls to try something difference. So stand up or shut up.

I sincerely hope president Obama sets us on the tract of an alternative fuel economy. I would love to goto work in a hydrogen car running on absolutely no oil. It would also be nice to have solar panels on the top of my house. I wonder if Halliburton will survive in a green future? What will happen to President Bush's oil business?

Roger: Clinton was president in a republican dominated congress. He compromised with both parties and he spoke to the American people- let your congressman be aware what is wanted to be passed in congress-congress was obligated to listen to their constituents or they were out. President Clinton years had a great economy. Bush was veto almighty -and gave congress doctored up intelligence so that we may be in a war that his father neglected to finish.

A few points inspired by above posts.
True, Bush was working with a Democratic Congress... for the last 22 months, but not the previous six years.
Is Bush the worst president ever? That's a tough one and probably not a question that can be answered without the perspective time provides. Give it a few years and let the historians start debating that one. Right now I think the prominent line of thinking is that it will be an interesting comparison between him and James Buchanan for worst ever.
I saw several references to unjust war above. If the Catholic Church is the judge, the invasion of Iraq was unjust. What amazes me about the Catholic Church is it can proclaim this, and yet American bishops seem to have blinders on to that fact and still support the Republican Party.
As for whether or not Bush should have addressed the troops on Thanksgiving, while he may well be seen one day as the worst president ever, give the guy a break. He's commander in chief for another couple months still, and addressing the troops on Thanksgiving is certainly something Obama will do next November as well.

I will always respect George W. Bush in keeping his commandment in fighting (Islamic fascism) evil. If it was not for President Bush this country would be attacked again…
GOD BLESS YOU MR.PRESIDENT!
