Questions Over Palin & Party

November 06, 2008 1:35 PM

A Fox News report that Sarah Palin didn't know Africa was a continent...A NY Times report that the McCain team was furious over Palin staffers scheduling a phone conversation between the VP hopeful and the President of France...a call which turned out to be a prank.  A Newsweek piece that says Palin ran up a clothing tab that far exceeds the previously tallied $150,000.

What's going on here?  In defeat comes blame.  And the inevitable leaks.  But above the sniping looms a bigger question: where does the Republican Party go from here?  Political analysts point to the several factions of the party -- the small government fiscal conservatives, the evangelicals, and the everyday blue collar populists.  Who will lead the Republican Party and to where?  Will one faction set the agenda?  And how much do the leaks - true or not - about Sarah Palin have to do with that bigger question?

The election is over.... but by all means, this is news.

Ignore the fact that the market is tanking on worries of Obama.

Ignore the fact that terrorists are celebrating Obama's win. Where did the story about that go? I see you took it down. All about saving face.

For days prior to the election I've been calling her Witless from Wasilla as a political snark. Ironically, I was totally correct.

This is what happens when you nominate a Democrat to head the Republican party.

Sarah was a McCain's mistake, please stop finger pointing, McCain has shown that he has no judgement by selecting Sarah. Too late, this faillure tells more about McCain than Sarah who of course should have refused McSame's offer. But she is also power hungry and has accepted the inacceptable.

Two words: Ron Paul. He was right on just about everything and got mocked for it. Republicans need to pay for embracing the neoconservative warlike mentality. They also need to pay for promoting easy money through the vehicle of the federal reserve. Too much bad regulations distorting our economy.

The markets are NOT reacting to the Obama win, they are reacting to the fact that unemployment went up in October, that retail sales are continuing to plummet and manufacturing has slowed to a trickle.

I also have to say that if the sources within the McCain campaign are only now launching their disappointment in the Palin choice, it is to little to late. If the GOP was earnest about having truly vetted her, than they already knew her intellect, or lack there of. They knew what they had going into this and they wanted whatever votes they believed they could get from her presence, than the competency of her abilities. I think they used her and I think she will eventually realize this on her own. I think what was done to her is just sad all around, but then, she did say YES!!

A clear majority of Americans have spoken 53% of them said it's time to change and move ahead. In neither election that G.W. Bush won, did he have a majority of the vote, which is why the country polarized and splintered. He barely won in electoral votes, where as Obama won 68% of the electoral votes...

This is the first time in 8 years we've had an election that has TRULY represented the will of the majority of Americans. Nothing is more uniting than the majority voice setting the tone.

This finger pointing, jockeying for position and political sniping is exactly what is responsible for the failure of the McCain/Palin ticket. I hope the next Republican candidate does not choose anyone who worked on this campaign. We now have a minimum of four years to regret their ineptness and incompetence. May God Help America.

Yes, ABC News, where would we be without you in giving us a negative story on Palin? These rumors are the same people who did NOT want Palin on the ticket in the first place. They want to make her the scapegoat. I noticed they didn't criticize her on her policies, but made it personal. Hmmmm... Last time I checked, wasn't McCain on the top of the ticket? Didn't Palin gin up the crowds? Didn't she get the core conservatives to back McCain? Nevermind any ex-McCain staffer look at how McCain delt with the $700 billion buyout? Or that his message changed on a weekly basis? Or that he didn't use George Bush to help him out with the base and not use him at any rally? Or that he didn't use Rev. Wright or Bill Ayers starting in the summer? or that Obama's childhood mentor was Frank Marshall Davis was a communist? So, for the ex-McCain staff to go nit picky is just plain childish and not very loyal to McCain at all. THAT is why McCain lost. Leave Palin out of this.

As a senior citizen, I've had the opportunity to vote in many presidential elections, and I've always voted for the Republican candidate until this election. I believe Obama is the best person to lead our country. However, I must admit to some serious concerns about the McCain campaign. His choice of Sarah Palin, in my opinion, showed poor judgment. His campaign was full of smears and lies and his attitude came across as negative. If I had not had faith in Obama's abilities, I still would not have made a choice for the McCain/Palin ticket. If McCain had made speeches such as the one he made in Colorado just after he voted or his concession speech, I would have been more proud of the Republican campaign, but I would not have been able to cast my vote with Sarah Palin on the ticket.

ABC is living up to its reputation.
Okay, lets talk about dresses and stuff.
What was up with Michelle's dress?
Somebody threw red paint on her?
She should get her money back.
okay - enough about fashion -
What about Ahmadinejad?

Ahmie congratulated President Elect Obama. That's nice. Obama is making
friends already.

Oh, I know. Ahmie is NOT an associate or friend; he's just a guy in our world neighborhood. I got it.

I think this is a legitimate topic to analyze. In the Risk Management field, it is known as a a near-miss
incident. However, I never, as I stated months ago expected that Palin would be VP even if McCain won. She instead would have resigned for family reasons and McCain would have appointed
Joe Leiberman to be VP. Something for Repubs to think about.

Tired of McCain/Palin supporters blaming the media or ABC news for these stories on Palin.

ABC news did not make Palin say her foreign policy experience was based on the fact that they could see Russia from Alaska.

ABC news did not make Palin get punked by a fake phone call from Sarkozy

ABC news did not make Palin refuse to be prepped for the Katie Couric interview

ABC news did not make her not know that Africa was a continent

ABC news did not force her to not be able to name a newspaper that she reads

ABC news did not make her not know the role of the VP

ABC news did not make Palin look ignorant; she accomplished that all on her own

I liked Palin at first, but she showed herself to be out of her league pretty quickly. I do feel the press maligned her a bit unfairly, when Biden made smoother, but bigger gaffes, than she did at times.

However, the see Russia from my house comment is one of those Quayle moments you just can't live down. Quayle may have made one silly mistake with the "potatoe" thing (I read somewhere that the answer he was given to write down was wrong--should have noticed, though), but you only get one chance like that on the world stage...it's what people remember.

I am sure Palin is a good governor, and she would likely be a good legislator. She is not ready to be president. Obama may have had less experience than her, but you have to admit that being a Senator is comparable in that it is on the national stage. And, I have to admit that Obama sounded like he knew what he was talking about, no matter what you threw at him...Palin got flustered.

You can quibble about the content of what Obama said, but his delivery is good, real good.

I don't really want to see her try in 2012, either. I am sick of the down home, folksy stuff.

I like republicans who are moderate...I don't want my candidate to even think about intelligent design, or be all spiritual, or talk about God's "master charge" or whatever...

Think about Eisenhower, Goldwater, Lincoln, etc. That's what I would like to see come back...I like Romney, but again you get the religion thing. And I like Mormons, but Mormonism is too weird for me...I guess no weirder than Palin's sect of Christianity.

Sorry, I am not into religion. NONE of the presidents of the past, prior to Bush, were as born again as some in the right wing seek. Maaaybe Reagan, but even he was less so than the current wave of "burned over" types.

Don't give me the founding fathers were super religious, they were moderates.

Wow Fox News jabbing Palin a republican, must be a first. The Republican party has no one to blame except themselves, they lost touch with working people a long time ago. You have to be accountable for your actions (even Ted Stevens) and they are finding it out now.
