Blagojevich: "I've Enjoyed The Limelight"

December 30, 2008 3:42 PM

Doesn't get any stranger than this.

Illinois Governor Blagojevich appears, names former state Attorney General Roland Burris to the U.S. Senate; Burris takes questions -- nearly all of which are about Blagojevich himself; Congressman Bobby Rush then appears, to inject race into the situation -- saying, "Don't lynch the appointee"; the Lt. Governor, Pat Quinn, says race should have no rule and neither should Blagojevich ("It's time for him to leave"); finally, several U.S. Senators issue a statement saying that they will not seat Burris -- or anyone else appointed by the current governor of Illinois.

Think that about covers it. Stay tuned...

Time will tell. This is how I see the situation, the repubs are upset that it can't be a repub without a special election and a lot of prayers, dems are upset because it isn't their pick (or Obama's pick). Roland Burris is not liberal enough for Reid and co. This is probably going to get uglier, but at least it is entertaining.

"This is about a governor who has demonstrated that he is incapable of discharging the duties of governor." - Omentum

Excuse me Omentum, but please activate some brain cells.

The very act of Blago naming Burris demonstrates that he can discharge his duties and rather well I might add, Roland is a good choice.

Now some may wonder if the Senate can discharge its duties if they don't seat Mr. Burris.

Let's all watch the show and see if the Senate can get it right.

If Governor Blagojevich actually said "I've enjoyed the limelight," there should be no further proof needed that he is totally incapable of executing the duties of governor.

Further, it demonstrates this pitiful individual is in severe need of aggressive therapy.

I believe immediate impeachment is the most humane act the Illinois Legislature can perform. This would permit full-time intervention to make him whole again.

To quote Dr. Laura, "Now, go do the right thing!"

The governor seems to have no sense of shame. And Burris, to me, disqualifies himself because he should have declined the nomination. It's up to the people of Illinois and the Senate, but my bet is that he doesn't get seated (especially since Obama gave the okay to block it).

Is Burris selling his soul to become Blago token African American???

At 71, Burris is linking his good name to a dirty politician that's been tainted!!!!

Burris could not win a major election but willing to slim his way into a Senate seat!!!

Who ever lies in bed with a dog will defintely get fleas!!!

Burris is making a terrible mistake!!!!

this guy is the embodiment of political crookedness

Huuummmmmm . . . . .

So NoBo gave his blessing to the senate not to seat Burris.

I wonder if he would have done the same if Blago had named Valerie Jarrett.

Maybe Bama favors a special election.
Hard to tell because he keeps his cards close to his chest and doesn't take many stands on things.
I vote - present.

This guy is a perfect example of why most Americans, especially those without access to huge amounts of $ and power, loathe politicians. Why is it so hard to get ilk like this thrown out?

I believe Pat Quinn is right: Blago will be removed from office before Lincoln's birthday in February. And good riddance.

First, to Noz, yes, I firmaly believe that Obama would have opposed Jarrett as well -- probably in frustration and great regret, but having himself called for Blogo to step aside, he can't very well switch now.

And to 2009!!!!!!, I happen to vote independently, having never voted a straight ticket in my life. That said, do you *really* want to start listing dirty/stupid/incompetent politicians by party? There are plenty in all parties -- including outside the Democrats.

A general observation: there's a yawning difference between being able to *execute* one's duty in any position, public or private, and being able to execute one's duty *competently.*

Clearly, Blogo has carried out his duties as governor as specified by the constitution of Illinois in making this appointment.

The question becomes about how competently he did so.

A second question arises about how clean or dirty the appointment was (with apologies to former state Attorney General Roland Burris who, as I understand it, has a very good record).

So when are they going to oust Blago? Why did Burris accept the nomination if it has already been said that the Senate will not accept anyone that Blago appoints. And, of course, the race factor has to come in the picture. What else is new! Burris knows what Obama said or does he want to play games like most politicians do.
