Bristol Palin Gives Birth to Baby Boy

December 29, 2008 7:58 PM

Ap_rnc_080903_main Bristol Palin, the 18-year-old daughter of former GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, gave birth to a 7-pound, 4-ounce boy, Saturday morning, sources tell ABC News.

Bristol and her fiance Levi Johnston welcomed their son Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston into the world in Palmer, Alaska.

Keith Johnston, Levi's father, confirmed the news to ABC News' Josh Gaynor. He said Tripp was born Saturday and left the hospital Sunday.

The new grandfather says he hasn't seen Tripp yet, since he is out working in the oil fields.

Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol's grandmother, Sally Heath, said in an interview with People magazine that the baby is healthy.

"The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited," Jones said.

Levi Johnston, a former Wasilla High School hockey player, dropped out of high school to take a job as an apprentice electrician on Alaska's North slope. Bristol Palin is completing her high school diploma through correspondence courses, People says. The couple has been dating for three years, and Johnston told the Associated Press in October that they plan to marry in 2009.

The teenage couple has been in the spotlight since Sarah Palin announced Bristol's pregnancy in September, just three days after joining the Republican ticket.

Well I wish Palins Grandson all the best...and hope her daughter and the baby's daddy have a job to support the child they created.

Great family values! Keep up the good work!

Is this news? Well, if it was Obama's daughter having a baby out of wedlock, it sure would be, and the same people supporting Palin's "family values" would be condemning instead.

Lovely to see nothing is beyond politicization or party contempt I'm guessing in 30 years or so, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston will still be thankful he got a chance to live...and I'd say the same for any grandchild of Obama's...no matter the circumstances.

Welcome to Planet Earth, Tripp...lot's of winners out here to hang out with.

My best wishes to that baby. He's going to need all the help he can get, with unmarried teenage parents who have not graduated from high school. I still don't understand why Republicans can't teach their children about sex and pregnancy in such a way so that kids actually learn how to prevent teenage pregnancy, not to mention sexually transmitted diseases.

Bristol does indeed have higher family values than those who abort their babies.

Congrats to the young couple...Tripp is a nice name.

Not everything has to be critized or politized. A new child was born healthy, that is enough to be happy for.

I'm not sure why this is breaking news, but I wish the family the best, a new life is always a wonderful thing and God don't place any being on this earth that he does not already have a path for. God Bless them all. From a Liberal who believes in the Power of Life and Love.

Bristol needs to stop naming her children trashy names! Trig and now Tripp. Sarah I do hope at least one of your children complete highschool. Stop using them as props!

proscene, people like you make a bad name for all Americans, why does Govenor Palin have to be a bimbo, because she is a beautiful Married woman with the guts to go out and make a difference for others? whether it is 1 or 600,000 she is not on this earth taking up oxygen she is making life better for others. Is this what we teach our children? to name call and be hateful and envious of others? No wonder these little girls in school are so nasty and mean spririted because of people like you and parents that think like you. Good Luck to the Family.

Okay,Now is it really necessary for that young man to drop out of school to be a for real stupid dad!!! Could he have done that and still stayed in school? At least with a high school education he stood a little bit better chance at life in case he wanted to better his life later.Duh???? Do you think that really smart Sarah talked him into quitting? We all know how smart she can be at times....Duh!!!!

I am actually surprised the baby didn't suffer some type of alcohol poisoning given the reports of the mother's heavy boozing. It is good to hear the child is OK (but sounds like he got lucky).

Congratulations to the Palin & Johnson families..

Levi is working as an Electrician Apprentice to obtain a Family Supporting occupation so that he can take care of his family.

Bristol continues to study for her GED.

You can bet this is child born to young adults ( he is 19 and she is 18)that will not be supported by our tax dollars and he will be a father to his child.

Why is this travesty "breaking news"?

Posted by: Kennedy | Dec 29, 2008 9:06:01 PM

Glad to see most of the comments are supportive for a couple that really have nothing to do with politics - and have a lot on their plate right now. I wish them all the best. As for calling Palin a 'bimbo' governor - Proscene - when they were passing out class, you must've been absent that day.
