Remember What Obama Said About Clinton During the Campaign?

December 01, 2008 11:41 AM

Ap_obama_clinton_081201_blog It is hard to remember now but Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton endured a bruising campaign against each other.  Remember?  Of course, lots was said in the battle for the nomination of their party.  At his press conference this morning announcing to the world his national security team, Barack Obama was asked about his jabs at Clinton during the campaign...specifically ones involving her foreign affairs experience.  He deflected in a humorous way...a lot is said during the heat of the campaign...

Remember this early-in-the-campaign zinger Obama hurled at his now nominee for Secretary of State:

"It's that experience, that understanding, not just of what world leaders I went and talked to in the ambassador's house, who I had tea with, but understanding the lives of people like my grandmother, who lives in a tiny village in Africa..."

Obama is a good talker and a calculated opportunist politician who says always what is need it for the moment. He also likes to be around powerful people, some of those powerful people were the ones who launched, mentored and pushed his political career from Jones and Daley in Illinois to Kerry, Daschle, Kennedy, Reid and Pelosi in the political world to Buffet and Smith in the business world or Oprah and Hollywood fat cows. He is a good listener and project manager, now comes the hardest part for him, his new untested challenge is to be a leader and take responsibility for actions taken by his team, government, etc. We all know how charming and cocky he gets with victory, I wonder how he will react when things get wrong? That's when a real leader shines or fails. Who knows, we'll see.

Wow!!!

The news media is nothing but a two-face scalawag!!!

That's water under the bridge!!!

Grow-up!!!

The left wingers aren't to happy with the choices, we know how much they hated Hillary, and in addition to her he is bringing Gates from Bush and Jones from McCain. Well, I guess he didn't have that much confidence in the left wingers or even one of his mentors in the senate(Kerry). So far the Financial and Security teams are not the change they can't believe in and fought for LOL.
Can't wait to see the Huffington Post, MSNBC pundits and the radical left winger bloggers bikering. That will be fun to read or watch.
Thought Daschle will get Health as a consolation prize.

The campaign is the campaign. This is moving forward in a positive manner. Obama has made brilliant appointments up and down the line. This is the perfect role for Sen. Clinton.

WHO CARES.

How are we going to heal if the press keeps picking the scabs off our wounds? Sheesh!

Posted by: obamamama | Dec 1, 2008 12:40:39 PM

Slamming someone's credentials is not "water under the bridge." It shows the duplicity of Obama, who had no credentials himself and who said whatever was necessary to get elected regardless of the truth. With this type of man in the White House, the press has a big job ahead.

And all those people who voiced their hatred of the Clintons: what do they say now?

Obama knows that Hillary and Bill still have a lot of fans. It's just Obama playing to those supporters of the Clintons.
The tea comment was l00% accurate.
It was accurate then; it is accurate NOW.

All these bloggers sreaming about "change," and claiming that these experienced people being appointed do not constitute change, have totally missed the point. "Change" is not appointing a team of complete rookies with no DC or government experience whatsoever. To do so would be ludicrous, dangerous and irresponsible. Doing so would be a complete disaster. True "change" is defined by the leader. Change is the philosophy behind government. Change is the direction determined by the leader. Change is the approach to working together with Congress. Change is the tone set by the leader. As such, Obama has made outstanding appointments. HE will be the change agent; they will support.

Obama and Hillary were in agreement
99% of the time on the key issues of our times. The question was always who would be most effective at implementing the needed change and fixes. Hillary made Obama a better presidential candidate and she will help him to be a great president.

Some of you harks are real political rookies.

You have zero understanding of politics.

In politics, you have to (1) Get Elected, and then (2) Govern.

Obama achieved (1) with flying colors. As he prepares for (2) with his appointments, I think he will nail that too.

Some of you still eating those "sour grapes" (including Jake), should just grow up. The election is over and Obama won. Even Hillary understands that.

Can the media try not to make news
instead report the news?

Posted by: FM | Dec 1, 2008 12:54:13 PM

Well I guess the media will be trying to stir up trouble for the next four years, and there are many of idiots to assist them with it, but if people use their good common sense and ignore the media and turn off this trash when they hear and read it, that will tell them who is in charge. Get over it ABC, yours and the attempt of practically all of the MSM to bring The Clinton's down have failed and it has failed miserably now take that and suck on it and start acting like Americans.

=================================

You took the word right out of my keyboard.

pathetic isn't it???

Posted by: Omentum | Dec 1, 2008 1:01:52 PM

Obama is just so much smarter than his detractors wanted to believe. The guy knows how to get the job done, thus, he appoints people who are qualified to do so. What's so difficult about understanding that???

Posted by: geecee | Dec 1, 2008 1:03:19 PM

I think once O got real security briefings, he finally understands the problems and the risks we face. I really think he came into the campaign thinking the world was rosier than it is. Campaigning is campaigning and anyone who believes in promises made during that time, is not very smart. This was a particularly nasty campaign and a lot of things were said on all parts, but in the end, we all have to keep the best interest of us and our country at heart. Perhaps that is why O is choosing experience over "change".

Politican are like any other scavengers, they fight over a rotting carcus until it is gone; amd then laie in wait for the next victim to devour. It seems that we have two acts to choose from The Nixon -- Reagan -- Bush, and Kennedy -- Clinton -- Obama. I suppose that that is the change referred to by Bush and Obama.

Posted by: olin tucker | Dec 1, 2008 1:35:27 PM

Samhiguchi: scroll back and see my post on "change." Bottom line: "Change" does not depend upon the degree, or lack thereof, of experience!

Posted by: William J. LePetomaine | Dec 1, 2008 2:25:01 PM

It seems as though some folks here equate "change" as a bunch of totally new, inexperienced faces for the Cabinet. How politically naive! It would be disastrous to take that approach. Any president would want the best, most experienced people he/she could find. Change comes from the direction, the approach, the philosphy, the style, the attitude, the tone, the methods of the leader. Whether someone was in a past administration has nothing to do with "change." The President is the change agent. The Cabinet is his support in doing what he hopes and wants to do.
