Gaza: Dozens Of Children Killed?

January 06, 2009 10:46 AM

From ABC's producer:

The toll is now roughly 40 in the aftermath of an Israeli strike that leveled a United Nations school in Gaza today, with many children among the dead. It's the second attack within a matter of hours to hit a UN-run school. On the southern Gaza border with Egypt, another ABC producer reports the evacuation of severely wounded Palestinians -- people with shrapnel wounds and severed limbs. Children among the victims there, too. International observers in Gaza are demanding a cease-fire.

Rt_gaza_airstrike_090105_main In the meantime an Israeli Defense Forces spokeswoman tells ABC News, first, that she has no confirmation it targeted the schools. Second, she notes an incident a few months ago when another school was used as location to fire missiles. Third, she says it's possible the explosion was caused by a nearby rocket stockpile. "We have to take these things very carefully," she said. "I have a list of Hamas manipulations on my desk right now."

More to come...

Of course. These things are going to happen no matter how targeted the strikes are. There will be a few bombs off target.

It is a shame what Hamas has done to the peopleof Gaza and all Arabs as well.

The only way to save lives in both sides is to stop firing rockets.

Even before he takes office, Obama has blood on his hands, because he won't condemn this.

It is a shame that people have the guts to comment hear and blame the Palestinians for what is happening to them. The Israeli military bombs a UN school, whose coordinates they were given by the UN to prevent it from being bombed, and 40 innocent civilians are killed, mostly women and children. How dare any of you sitting in the comfort of your homes and offices brush it off as collateral damage. This is ethnic cleansing. This whole operation is not about ending the rocket fire, it is about getting revenge by killing as many Palestinians as possible. Just look at who is getting killed, most of them are innocent civilians, and most are women and children. Israel has a long record of genocide that no one can deny: Jenine, Kafra Qassim, Sabra and Shatila, the Ibrahimy mosque, and many many more. If this was another country committing these same crimes the entire world would have stepped in and supported the victims of genocide. Shame on all of you for your silence and complicity.

Yes Tina... it's Obama's fault.

It is impossibly stupid to believe any information coming from Hamas or other Muslim sources since over time they have almost always proven to have manipulated the truth. Believe nothing unless you have seen it yourselves. Pictures are even being published that are not from the timeframe of this present conflict. A a Buddhist, I am for peace, but not for peace based on capitulation to terrorists. Hamas has blown up schools and killed their own Muslim children in Gaza. They are nothing but obstacles to peace like Hezbolla and all world terrorists.

Mike_C - You need to answer the question: Why is Israel expanding the number of settlements in the occupied territories?

Posted by: Huh | Jan 6, 2009 12:29:26 PM

Huh, where did you get your news, Israel is not expanding settlements anywhere and moved out of Gaza so maybe there would be some kind of peace, they had their chance, but all Hamas wants to do, is to destroy Israel and create terror all over the world.

Huh, also where were you when Hamas shoot Missiles into Irael on a daily basis?????

Posted by: Lizzie | Jan 6, 2009 1:08:22 PM

Huh,

Is there a single liberal on this site who can actually answer a question without a question?

The Israelies have actually been very patient and tried to ignore Hamas and these rocket attacks. If they wanted to "commit genocide" as some of the nut cases here claim, why would they have waited all this time? They could have gone in the first time it happened and totally obliterated everyone in Gaza.

Obviously that is not what they want to do. Hamas does not want peace, they are a group bent on causing chaos and involving civilian populations as much as they possibly can.

How many Israelis have been killed by the "horrifying" rockets, for which they have bomb shelters? Only 4 Israelis so far, and 2 of them are Arab, because they don't have bomb shelters. But when 600 Palestinians are killed in retaliation, its considered proportional?!! This is the real holocaust and the world is silent. No one was firing rockets from the UN school that was bombed today, and Israel knows it. This is why no proof of any rockets being fired from there has emerged or will emerge. Enough lies and enough trying to get sympathy when you are the aggressor. And guess what, as soon as this massacre began, public opinion polls suddenly show an increase in popularity for Olmert, Livni, and Barak, what a surprise! Now everyone is forgetting that Olmert is being investigated for his corruption. How convenient.
