Now I've Heard It All: Titanium Golf Clubs May Be Bad For Your Ears
January 06, 2009 11:42 AM
An interesting study in the most recent edition of the British Medical Journal (BMJ) caught our attention today. It finds golfers using the latest titanium golf clubs may be putting their ears at risk (and those of their playing partners). You know that sharp noise made when the titanium club face smacks against the golf ball? Apparently it is unsafe. The doctors who ran the study placed a noise measuring device a few feet away from a teed up ball. They swung 6 titanium clubs and found all of them produced noise levels above what is considered safe. Only 2 of the 6 regular steel drivers they tested produced unsafe sounds. The doctors say they plan to test the ears of the sports best players at the 2009 British Open.
