Charlie Gibson from London: A 'New World Order'?

April 02, 2009 1:42 PM

Abc_wn_charlie_sitting_london_09040There will be a great deal of analysis of this meeting of the G-20.  The impact and effectiveness of what was done here may not be immediately apparent. It may take months to fully judge whether the nations represented will commit enough stimulus spending to really make a difference, whether these countries are serious about free trade, whether regulations discussed might prevent further economic crises.

But the fact that this meeting could even take place is remarkable and to someone whose history is based in the last century -- pretty amazing.

The class photo of the world leaders is symbolic, but it says a great deal.  In the last century we talked of the Sino-Soviet split.  We talked of the iron curtain.  We talked of enmities left over from World War II.

But here in London Chinese leaders negotiated with the Russians.  Russians with Americans.  Germans,  English, French all together.  It was the world as one facing a problem with which every nation -- no matter their system of government -- must confront.

Rt_g20_080402_main Not every nation agrees. Each leader faces his or her internal political pressures, but the deep divisions of the last century were pretty much forgotten here.

Does the class picture represent a new world order as some were boldly suggesting today?  Maybe.  How the world emerges from the present crisis will be a good litmus.  It seemed taken for granted that these leaders -- some from countries that were recently bitter enemies -- could agreeably meet -- and that none would leave aggrieved.  Extraordinary -- in and of itself.

Hi, Charlie. Congratulations on your grand promotion! Phil Beuth introduced us on to one another on the set of Good Morning America, years ago.

I appreciate your angle on this story. Unfortunately, the only reason that they are getting along so famously is that Obama thinks like a full-out national/socialist (sans Holocaust, of course). It does not, in any way, shape, or form, portend well for a sovereign United States of America (which was the entire reason for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America; a fact which seems to have completely eluded the self-proclaimed "expert" on Constitutional Law).

Please, read and or review the Time/Life Book "The New Order", Hitler's plan for global domination ...and the sole reason that the US Government, now, calls the system "International Government" rather than "The New World Order" (since 1990).

Peace.

Does this sound like "1984"? Except this is 2008.

It does sound like 1984, and it's frightening. Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing. If people don't figure that out in the next couple of years, our country is doomed.

It is an Orwellian nightmare. The entire working class of the world is going to be thrown into one big pot regardless of citizenship, and policed and taxed to death so the elite can go on about their fun. Obama is just the newest member of the entire cabal.

Might as well "Jump!"

you go Mr. President. I am so proud of he and Michelle. They are representing us right, Baby! Full of class and dignity. Should make Americans of all stripes proud.

Charles Gibson - You will make it be whatever you want it to be but we will not be listening - when you come on TV - off it goes because we know you are lying. Obama is a very, very, frightening individual. Michelle Obama is worse. Is she proud to be an American now? Even the Queen feels sorry for her. Obama could care less about people, just keep smmiling. When is he going to even look presidential. She looks like a school girl 18 years old and dresses like one too. This country has nothing to be proud of. The women that went on the trip, like Hillary, look good.

toddo, he gave the queen an ipod! thats class to you? give me a break. He is as classless as he is clueless. Next thing you know he is going to be taking credit for getting these leaders together. What a joke and the whole world is laughing!

For any student of history, this meeting is just one more indication that global economic ties are more important than nation states in many ways. The path to peace in our time is not the biggest tanks and fastest jets (useless against fanatical fringe groups like Al Quaeda), it is through economic ties. Obama did well, but it is long history - including past Republican embraces of global trade - that gave him the opportunity.

The queen is old and has no authority over me. and she never will because i too am a sovereign man!
Ill spat on the "royal" family's shoes.

A bit of a stretch calling it a new world order but it's obvious the seeds that Nixon and Reagan planted are growing considering China and Russia are talking about Capitalism.

Money talks and these boys are listening.

Wait a second....I thought the
"New World Order" was just a conspiracy for folks who believe in "black helicopters", which, oddly, have also been found to be real- check out any Iraq footage. For decades we were told there is no "New World Order" plan despite people like Bush, Blair, Hart, Kissinger, etc using the phrase and now, decades later, it is admitted! What else is true but still denigrated as "conspiracy"? North American Union? NAFTA Super-highway? Amero? UN troops on USA soil? Gun confiscation? Who knows???

Janet & Jane, Marcus and the rest of you naysayers, is my guess, have never known real poverty - as I have, nor suffered horrible illnesses, as I have, and are clueless about the poor, which I have been and am, so it follows you can't appreciate the real deal, Barack and Michelle Obama - who are here to help us all, even you.

Obama is turning out to be either incredibly lucky or incredibly smart. Or maybe it just goes to show us all that genuine good will and an irrepressibly positive attitude is the real way to lift all boats.

Hi Charlie,
I really think brillant minds can come together for one common purpose. I also feel that President Obama will restore talks with all even our enemies not only to show that he is open to listen but also to take the lead and lead by example as he said. We have seen in the past eight years what being a bully over other nations has done and it is not the way to go. I would say its time to try something new. President Obama is a long way from being a fool.

Charlie
I can't believe some of the comments on your blog. It just shows that some of us are still either ignorant to the facts or just incredibly stupid. Anyone that sees this President as frighting needs to go back and look at Hitler and see the things he's done thats what you call frighting

Does all the Challenges to the US (at the moment) (4/09) mean that the world does not respect Obama. They didn’t challenge Bush to this degree ever, and when they did challenge him he let them know he would not put up with it - Showing what it means to have a strong leader.

At least so far (and maybe in reality) Obum is a weakling. Will he let the world run over us (is that why the world favored him SO much)………………... You see you Infantile Liberals; Bush was rising to the occasion (and McCain would have also) more than you would have ever known, ‘Otherwise’. Now we have a wimp (giving in to the world on so many diffirent fronts). Lets see if he can develop a backbone???????????

"A New World Order" Take a look at the head lines. This is an organization that is going to make South America, Cananda and the good 'ol USA one... We will be forced to use that same curency since the US dollar has no value... An all us little slaves will work to make the elite rich and powerful...When we are old, useless, no longer paying taxes, and become a burden to our government, they will induce death upon us so we do not drain their savings accounts. After all, this is the P-L-A-N of the Elite....

Posted by: DKD | Apr 2, 2009 5:39:28 PM

There are plans for everyone in this New World Order. It's called slavery... We will never become rich with hard work and ambition, because we will continually pay more and more in taxes. Spend spend spend... 1.9 trillion, 5 trillion... These people are printing money faster than they can spend it. Our US dollar is worth nothing... heres a hint... it's called inflation.. The dollar value is backed by china...Once it was backed by gold. Now it's backed by debt owed to china, and the arabs. All part of the PLAN for a "New World Order" Break us, shake us and stake us to the fence post. We are doomed....
