No Ordinary Sister: Iron-Nun Competes in Triathlons at Age 78
May 27, 2009 10:20 AM
Sister Madonna Buder is no ordinary nun. At 78-years-old she divides her time between her work as a nun and her love for fitness. The five-foot-seven, 115-pound nun trains seven days a week and competes in triathlons several times a year.
Triathlons are among the most grueling sporting events in the world. Buder is constantly surrounded by competitors decades younger than she is, but she prevails through the almost 17-hour long competitions. She has become an inspiration to thousands who look at her and think that they too can succeed.
Her advice for a long and healthy life? Never give up and never slow down.

I also know a nun who walks miles everyday and competes in one of our local marathons. She is one of the people I can't wait to see again as soon as I leave her company. Seeing all the work they do for the world and how they still have to for awesome things like this puts the icing on the cake.

I have been struck for many years that schools and universities run by Catholic religious orders produce outstanding figures in sports and athletics. The nun certainly shows that they can do it themselves.
