Have We Forgotten the Lessons of 9/11? (Or Did We Ever Really Learn Them?)
July 08, 2009 5:41 PM
ABC's Pierre Thomas will have a report tonight on our broadcast about Congressional investigators testing the security of federal buildings across America. What they found is stunning. Investigators were able to walk right into a "secure" building carrying a bag with bomb components. In fact the bag with the bomb parts was put through the building's x-ray machine and nobody caught it. The security was tested at 10 federal buildings and all flunked. Guards were reportedly not paying attention. One guard was found sleeping. Watch:

Your piece on the FPS tonight was interesting. What you did NOT mention is that most Federal bldgs. and SSA offices are staffed with CONTRACT GUARDS; NOT FPS OFFICERS!
You made it sounds like the FPS is a bunch of guards; they are not- they supervise the guards, and they do not have enough bodies or budget to do that correctly.
This sounds like a hit piece for someone's agenda to me-

Sounds like poor job training AND lax oversight. The story says the FPS has a $1 BILLION dollar budget for 9,000 buildings - is that not enough? I got the impression poor job performance was the gist of this story. If the FPS are supposed to be supervising, they're part of that problem. How many supervisors are needed per building? One? Two? How often do they make the rounds? Are there no surveillance cameras so supervisors can watch them, and at least catch someone SLEEPING? If the guards are contract, who chose the contract firms? I suspect some heads are gonna roll...

Walmart did not want to add 1/100th of a cent onto the cost of the Chinese products shipped from Hong Kong, so Bush refused to request that Hong Kong, the biggest exporter to America, inspect sea-land containers that could contain terrorist bombs. Our railroads, bridges, etc. were never secured. The fact is, al-Qaeda has little ability to cause damage. Even if we had one attack every few years in the areas we're guarding now, it wouldn't cause anywhere near the damage Bush's huge deficits and deterioration of America's infrastructure did.
Pierre Thomas works for ABC?
Thank him for me for gaining all those yards and scoring all those points against the Detroit Lions week 16 last year - it helped win my fantasy league's championship game.
I might take him in my league's fantasy draft this season if he's still available in the second or third round.
