Robert Redford's Secret Hamburg Wedding
July 15, 2009 9:44 AM
ABC's Christel Kucharz reports:
U.S. actor Robert Redford, 71, and his 51-year-old German fiancée Sibylle Szaggars got married at a secret wedding ceremony in Hamburg, Germany, last Saturday.
Evangelical pastor Frank Engelbrecht of St. Katharinen Kirche presided over the private ceremony between the actor and his long-time girlfriend.
He told local daily Hamburger Abendblatt, “The wedding ceremony and the vow was very important to them.”
The ceremony at Hamburg’s luxury luxury Elb-Hotel Louis C. Jacob, where the couple had been staying for a few days, was attended by some 30 friends and family members including Ms. Szaggar’s ex husband.
The bride, who was born in Hamburg, was dressed in a beautiful champaign-coloured dress.
This is the second marriage for both of them. Redford was divorced in 1985; he has three kids and four grand kids.
He and long-time girlfriend Sibylle have been dating since 1996.
They spend most of their time at Redford’s Sundance, Utah, residence.

What was the carbon footprint?

He flew to Germany when he could have rowed a boat? That would have saved a lot of carbon emissions. What a hypocrite.

Were his grandchildren there?
My six would not let me remarry!
Is that why he chose Germany where Elvis Presley served his country as a soldier. Then met his future wife!

I met Robert in the seventies at
Manor Country Club.
I did not know who he was at the time.
I did know his best friend.
I hope he was at his wedding.
