Sgt. Crowley Speaks Out About President's Remarks

The man at the center of the storm is talking today. Cambridge police officer Sgt. James Crowley spoke with WBZ Radio in Boston.

Asked about Gates' request that he apologizee...

"Just what I have said since yesterday when I was asked. The apology won’t come from me. I have done nothing wrong."

What happened leading up the arrest?

"Again I would refer back to the police report and the events of that day. But I acted appropriately, Mr. Gates was given plenty of opportunity to stop what he was doing. He didn’t. He acted very irrational. He controlled the outcome of that event."

"Well I would refer you back to the police report. There were a lot of yelling. There was references to my mother. Something you wouldn’t expect from anybody that would be, should be grateful that you are there investigating a crime in progress, let alone a Harvard University professor."

Charge of him being racist?

"It almost doesn’t even warrant a comment. It’s so ridiculous. And again my friends, my families, my colleagues, those people whose opinions matter most to me, they knew who I am and what I am not. It’s an unfortunate thing that the professor or other people have even mentioned that." Thoughts about President Obama saying the Cambridge Police Department acted stupidly...

"My only reaction was, somebody had told me what he said. I didn’t hear the press conference, I did listen afterwards. I support the president of the United States 110%, I think he is way off base wading into a local issue before knowing all the facts as he himself stated before he made that comment. Again I don’t know what to say about that, I guess a friend of mine would support my position too."
