MUST WATCH: Sneaky Hidden Fees That Cost You Money
July 16, 2009 11:50 AM
Great piece to pass along to you. ABC’s Bill Weir took a look for Nightline last night at all of the hidden fees we pay for cable, phone, electricity, on and on. It’s eye opening. Take a few minutes to watch.

Why don't you spent your time doing a article on the hidden cost of health care bill

PLEASE! Have someone look into the billions of dollars in subsidies that the Pharma and insurance industry have been receiving for years. Billions that should go to Traditional Medicare. The Bush administration awarded the pharma/insurance industry these subsidies since he created the Medicare Modernation Act of 2003. Medicare is not the problem these greedy, unethical special interest groups are the problem. Bush forbidded Medicare from negotiating the price of prescriptions when he created Medicare D to benefit the Pharma groups. This act was created to benefit the pharma and insurance industry at the expense of the taxpayer and to the detriment of the elderly and the disabled who can least afford it. Look at how many millions ($200) they have spent to lobby our senators and congressmen who speak out of the sides of their mouth. There is enough info to keep you going for weeks.

These fees are effectively fraud. THERE'S the real stimulus. Tax cuts and forcing companies to stop lying about prices. I also think that the Federal "Universal Service Fee" on the phone bills is stupid. Why should I be forced to subsidize other people's phone bills? I have enough trouble paying my own bills. I should also not have to pay collections costs for OTHER PEOPLE'S DEBT. Great story. I wish Congress would get off their backsides and do something useful rather than just spending our money. How about SAVING us money? As far as health care.. I pay $50 cash for my doctor visits.. I only have hospitalization insurance and it's great! $50. No extra "fees" or "taxes." Try it sometime, offer to pay cash to your doctor.. he'll give you a far cheaper price. Pay for service.. the way it should be. I shouldn't be paying for others' health care, nor should you pay mine.

I am sick of all those fees. We had to pay a fee for the infrastructure & development if the internet. Why then do I have to pay a fee to use it? The same with wireless phones. We pay fees for our cell phone air time. We now pay fees to text? That only takes a micro second to send. User fees are really theft by the companies.

But we don't need any more "regulation." We can trust the greedy capitalists, right? Our recession is clear proof of just how bogus this Republican belief is. All of these hidden fees are also ample proof of how much we need much stricter regulation. Of course, if you like being shafted over and over again, then you'll swallow the swill of Limbaugh, Hannity, and the rest of the lackeys of big business.
Why is "stricter regulation easier said then done"? Simply because of lobbyists and their control of campaigns and elections in this country. Kick the lobbyists out, institute real campaign reform and it might not be so hard to accomplish.

That's the tip of the iceberg. The government at all levels, federal, state and local, has been instituting all sorts of "fees" and "use" taxes, and other means of revenue, many hidden underneath outer layers, or simply disguised, and they amount to nothing but TAXES.
They especially target those things they know you will use.....telephones, TV, movies, liquor, beer, wine, cigarettes and tobacco, and even soft drinks.
I can recall when there were no taxes on any food items at all. Now there is hardly anything that is not single double or triple taxed.

I once paid $14 to park in Chicago(that's the early bird special, after 7 a.m. it gets more expensive). The instructions state to leave the receipt face up. I accidentally turned it upside down. My penalty: $25 fee(on top of the $14 already paid) I don't know if that qualifies as a hidden fee but it sure did suck.

I paid for a phone for my father in a nursing home so he could connect online and communicate with family. We had the phone company block all outgoing long distance calls so that no one could use his phone when he was out of the room. The bill included a fee for the ability to call long distance even though this phone couldn't be used for long distance phones. I paid this fee for the four years my dad lived in the nursing home. Rediculous.

We turned the water off because the house was going to sell and we got a READY TO SERVE charge of about $9.00 just for having a water meter. We had already paid our final bill for usage when they sent it to us. It included a "READT TO SERVE bill for water AND a "READT TO SERVE" charge for sewage. They said the charge would continue on every bill until the water was turned back on. We could avoid the charge by having the water meter removed for $175. Of course, the new owners would have to have it reinstalled, also for a fee. DeKalb County Water Dept (Atlanta Georgia area). This is really happening now and I have the bill to prove it. Sic 'em!!

My complaint is the 'customer fee'. Maybe I dont' want to be a customer. This was on my Natural Gas bill.
I have been complaining for years. Seems to do little good. You always get the secretary. She is there to take the complaints and not pass them on. That is her job. Another thing, they say to be 'nice'. However, unfortunately, if you are 'nice' you will never get anything done.
Have you noticed you can't buy anything today without a credit card. Money is taboo! I had a Gift Card steal $249. from me.
I am not done with them yet.
accomplished.
I could go on and on and on....
