Sotomayor: 'applying the law to the facts at hand'
July 15, 2009 9:35 AM
Good morning on yet another cool day in the East. Here are some quotes of the day:
“It’s a refrain I keep repeating, because that is my philosophy of judging: applying the law to the facts at hand.” -- Judge Sonia Sotomayor, to the Senate Judiciary Committee
“We’d like to do it with the votes of members of both parties. But the worst result would be to not get health-care reform done.” -- White House senior adviser David Axelrod, to Bloomberg’s Ed Chen.
“Pretending that ‘the rich’ alone can fund government, let alone the kind of activist government that the president and Congress envision, is bad policy any way you look at it." -- editorial, The Washington Post
"So there's no bailout plan for the National League?" -- Fox Sports broadcaster Joe Buck, referring to the league's long All-Star losing streak
"No -- we're out of money." -- President Barack Obama

I'm not too worried about Sonia.
If she is indeed "a wise latina woman" she'll move to the right after a few years on the bench.
"But the worst result would be to not get health-care reform done.” - White House senior adviser David Axelrod
Wrong again Axehead.
Doing the wrong kind of reform will be worse than not getting any reform done.
So far, the administration isn't going after the number one cause of Health Care being too expensive.
But, I still hold out hope.
"No - we're out of money." - President Barack Obama
Even though NoBo realizes that simple fact I really don't think it's going to stop him from spending more of our money which he doesn't have.
(sigh)

Has anyone noticed Sotomayor’s eyelids when she is answering questions. The more contentious the questions the faster they twitch. At some points in her questioning they twitch so rapidly that it is difficult to follow.
Every report says she is calm and cool under questioning, listen closely to her voice and watch her eyelids and you will notice she is not as cool as has been reported.
If the Republicans notice this they may get her to show her temper and that could spell problems for her confirmation.
