White House: Fox News is a 'Wing of the Republican Party'
October 12, 2009 11:55 AM
The animosity between this White House and Fox News seems to be ratcheting up. This Sunday the White House communications director Anita Dunn had this to say on CNN’s “Reliable Sources”: “Let's not pretend they're a news network…Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party.” Dunn continued: "What I think is fair to say about Fox, and certainly the way we view it, is that it really is more a wing of the Republican Party.” “We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent.”October 12, 2009 | Permalink | Share | User Comments (81)

Let me guess..the White House thinks MSNBC is a non-aligned news organization , too....

Uh, Anita? You're kinda late on this. For your info, we already knew this! It's a place where demagogary reigns. They're just a propaganda machine. I wouldn't even fault them if they simply were a hand for Republican party, but they make up stuffs as if they could care less about what level headed people think.

FOX News is an utter joke. I have never met an educated person who watches that farce.

Fox certainly has a republican bent. Msnbc, cbsnews and cnn all have strong democratic leanings. You have to look elsewhere for unbiased coverage. I like fox business, but fox also has junk on their front page.

Let's see. Fox New President is Roger Ailes, former media consultant for Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Gerorge Bush-the-elder, and Rudy Guiliani. He has paid his bills by working for Republicans in the area of media since the late 60's. Of course the network is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Republican Party. Their relationship is like one of Chevrolet to General Motors.

Fox has more viewers that MSNBC and
CNN. If those dolts who are afraid
to go on the Fox network would have
the real courage to stand up to some
scrutiny they would reach a bigger
audience on FOX. Seems to me, Obama
did go on Fox for an interview with
O'Reily. Again, if you have your convictions and can defend them, why
would you not go on that station? They
don't want the tough questions that
people want to know...just their sanitized and spun pap that they dole
out on the regular networks and the
Rachel Maddow and Keith Olberman. If
we think Obama would make mincemeat out
of O Reilly then he should put his money
where his mouth is and go on the shows
and show how misleading they are. He
wants to talk to Korea and Iran but
can't face O'Reilly? Come on show
some backbone.

Fox News is purely entertainment and not news. The amount of fiction they report on likens them to The Onion. Anyone who believes anything that is said on that channel has got to be delusional.

Steve Hanes, is that what you have been
told or have you watched? As an independent I do watch ALL the networks.
Just to sit and gobble up all you hear
from one network is iresponsible. If you
watch it all, you will find and be able
to deduct thru common sense that the
truth lies somewhere in between both
spins left and right.

I would think the White House would
be salivating on the chance to go
in and expose Fox News as having a
bias. Why would they not take that
opportunity to show what they believe
to be true? Answer....they don't have
the guts to go and get asked some tough
questions. They want all the softballs
lobbed at them like at those news conferences they have at the White House. They want to give a 15 minute
answer to a simple question and turn
it into a speech. John Kerry our big
war hero does not have the guts to go
on their either. They want a network
they can control and FOX does not fit
that bill. If you are afraid of FOX news
you should have a bigger fear of our so
called leaders who can't stand up to
any tough questions. Now that is scary.

You have that backwards. The GOP is a wing of FOX News. FOX and company drive the issues, the GOP keeps apologizing for over stepping their bounds.
Posted by: Thinking | Oct 12, 2009 1:58:59 PM
Roger Ailes, the head of Fox News, is a former White House dirty trickster under Nixon. Of course, it's a wing of the far right GOPers. The big money far right GOPers needed their own media outlet to consistently get their message out packaged as "fair and balanced". Financing Fox News is peanuts to them - a great investment in disinformation.

Let's see, Fox News leads ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN & MSNBC in the ratings. How do they do that? Guess Americans like to watch them more than the others. Face it, anytime a liberal is confronted with opposing viewpoints, liberals start personal attacks against that which doesn't agree with them. They never cite any facts. I like Fox News, because it's the counter point to the Democratic Party media system of ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN & MSNBC.

Cat...that was beautiful.

This is not new news. Cluster Fox News is a campy farce of a news program much like The Colbert Report. Nobody takes that show seriously either.
Posted by: zee | Oct 12, 2009 2:21:55 PM
Of course, Fox News people are republicans - just like CNN and MSNBC people are democrats.
It's all so "Spin City"; it's really laughable.
Take a look at Rachel Maddow and Keith Olberman. Talk about characters!
I agree that Glenn Beck is a character that I do not enjoy at all. However, Rachel and Keith are also foaming at the mouth.
If you can't be honest about your favorite news show (whether it would be FOX, CNN, or MSNBC), then you are not able to be objective about what they are telling you.
BIGGEST CON JOB OUR POLITICIANS ARE PULLING:
The senators say that they can regulate the banking and health industries AND receive huge contributions all at the same time. Apparently, they cannot.
This goes for both sides of the aisle.
Whether you are republican, democrat, or independent, we all need to have our eyes, and ears, and brains opened and not let ANY network influence you.

Typical left wing stuff. Don't try to sit down and discuss anything in case the facts actually come out. It's much easier to call a news network evil and to avoid them because they are evil (which you define them to be in the same sentence). If your conscience in clean, if you think the truth is on your side, if you can prove your point, it should actually be a pleasure to sit down with the "opponents" and prove them wrong, wouldn't it?? That would destroy them, not the cheap propaganda against them that noone (except left wing radicals who choose to hide behind it) actually belives anymore.

MSNBC is not nearly as one-dimensional as Fox, but I think that folks like Matthews and Olbermann consistently go too far left. When Matthews said that Obama's speeches sent a tingle down his leg, MSNBC lost me. CNN and ABC seem to be the most consistently fair-minded. If pushed, I would probably give the edge to CNN on the objectivity standard.

Breathtaking Cat----well put. I see no negative responses!

Why doesn't the White House just admit they are afraid of Fox for their fair and balanced news. Fox is the only network that doesn't bow to this White House. Of course NBC is left wing - they are owned by General Electric and we know why they are biased. ABC, CBS, and MSNBC have always been a piece of fluff and will always be ust that. Why doesn't anyone in the White want to accept the invitations they have gotten to come on Fox and tell them how wrong they are, if they think they are wrong? Problem is this they won't come on Fox news because they know they risk further exposure.
