Breaking News -- Killings At Fort Hood
November 05, 2009 3:55 PM
From Reuters:
At least seven people were killed and 12 wounded in a shooting at a U.S. Army base in Fort Hood, Texas, on Thursday, local media reported. One gunman was in custody and another was on the loose, local media reported. One station said there was a third shooter involved. The attack happened at the Soldier Readiness Center at Fort Hood, according to the FOX 4 television station. The base is currently in lockdown mode, according to Fort Hood's website. Fort Hood is halfway between Austin and Waco, about 60 miles (97 km) from each city, in Texas.
Our Martha Raddatz reports the base is on lockdown; top soldiers on base are being asked to account for all personnel; our Jake Tapper reports that the President has been notified; our Jason Ryan reports that FBI agents are headed to the base.
More to come…

Remember Remember the 5th of November the gunpowdered treason and plot,
For I know of no reason why the gunpowdered treason should ever had been forgot...

Doesn't it seem fishy that the killers chose today of all days. My hearts out to the victims.

Fort Hood is not a "base;" it is a "post." Large Army installations are referred to as "posts." Large Air Force and Navy installations are referred to as "bases."

The Texas Tower Sniper and the Fort Hood Killings may have correlations? If so, what could they be?
Dr. Stuart Brown, now a retired Psychiatrist and Founder and President of the National Institute for Play, was summond by Texas Governor John Connolly to investigate the shootings of the Texas Tower Sniper, Charles Whitman. Charles Whitman killed 17 and wounded 41 others. All this happened after Texas Governor Connolly took a bullet himself while riding in the motorcade with President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated.
TED TALKS says this about Dr. Brown's work:
"Dr. Stuart Brown came to research play through research on murderers -- unlikely as that seems -- after he found a stunning common thread in killers' stories: lack of play in childhood. Since then, he's interviewed thousands of people to catalog their relationships with play, noting a strong correlation between success and playful activity.
With the support of the National Geographic Society and Jane Goodall, he has observed animal play in the wild, where he first concieved of play as an evolved behavior important for the well being -- and survival -- of animals, especially those of higher intelligence. Now, through his organization, the National Institute for Play, he hopes to expand the study of human play into a vital science -- and help people everywhere enjoy and participate in play throughout life."
The National Institute for Play believes that as play is woven into the fabric of social practices, we will dramatically transform our personal health, our relationships, the education we provide our children and the capacity of our corporations to innovate.
The National Institute for Play sees play as an un-realized power that can transform our social and economic life during periods of radical change.
