How Much To Read Into Last Night’s Results?

November 04, 2009 1:46 PM

The chairman of the Republican party, Michael Steele, says yesterday’s election results show a “transcendent party”.  The GOP is back.  Or is it?  How much do you read into Republicans winning the high office in New Jersey and Virginia (two states where President Obama campaigned on behalf of the Democrat candidate)?  Exit polling pointed up Obama’s continued popularity.  What do you think?

Just because you like somebody, doesn't mean you like their actions (or inactions). People still like Obama.
Or do they?

2010 is not a given, for Obama.

The night certainly shows that Obama has lost some electoral pull. This is not surprising considering the economy and his attacking the third-rail issue of health care, but it is clear. Congress will need to show results or make clear the cause of failure (personally, I think Liberman needs to be officially expeled from the Democratic caucus - he is not a Democrat and Democrats do NOT have a supermajority in the Senate and they should accept that fact).

Winning 2 governor tickets-so what- 4 Big City Mayor races were Democrat, with 2 Congressional wins-New York and California. Maybe Virgiia and New Jersey just had better looking rep's running. Sometimes that's all it takes. Obama jsut needs to learn that trying to be bi-partisian doesn't seem to work in country any more.Senators vote for whoever pays their bills, not the ovters.

Opinion poles are worded by those that seek a desired result. Check the wording of the survey. Was it based upon generalities or specific issues. This election only shows that those that turned out for Obama chose to go back to their complacency. The Republicans aren't any stronger; their base is more consistent in getting out to vote.

A note on Russia. President Dmitry Medvedev video blog about Stalin and John McCain's comments on white- washing Russia's Stalinist past. I feel that if President Medvedev and Sen. McCain put more emphasis on Peter the Great, Kathren the great, the Romanov's Family and the resurrection of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, in Moscow it would be for the better of Russia and the rest of the World.

As the last election approached, I wrote on these pages that whoever won, McCain or Obama, might be a one-term President because the problems Bush left us were so huge it would take much political capital to solve it. And I think that limiting the discussion to the two races the GOP won and absolutely ignoring the Dem. Congressional win in NY and a fee Dem. wins in Mayoral races is due to pure sensationalism by the press. Additionally, in these times, no government incumbents can look forward to swells in popularity. Finally, State or City or Congressional District elections are heavily flavored by local problems as much as by what's going on in D.C.

Obama lost last night. People are starting to wake up and realize that they were conned. Change and hope ? Where? 1 out 10 Americans are out of work.

Democrats and Republicans need to realize their record of wreck less spending and government control of everyday life will speak for itself…We have afforded them a comfortable lifestyle while they fail to represent the very ones who sent them to Washington, but that free ride will end in 2010…We the people are not stupid or ignorant…We will be prepared to handle their thug ACORN members and we will not back down…

Republicans did not win last night. New Jersey was bound to become a red state one day on it's own... yes, that's right.. Democrats just keep pushing your agenda and change nothing.... everything will be forgotten in 2010... "come to me, said the Spider to the fly"......

Bush left the nation in pretty bad financial shape. But is that a valid reason for this administration and its minion congress to take us farther into debt?

The CBO warns that the current debt is unsustainable, yet these people on the hill plan for it to double to $24 trillion by 2019!

What does "unsustainable" time 2 equal?
Hopefully that's why some democrats lost, but can republicans help us? Are they willing to help us out of this pit?

Until the american people wake up and say that they are not going to let this government, run totally out of control, and actually hold all incumbents fully responsible for their actions, then and only then will we have a free society. And the only way I know of holding all of them accountable is to impeach them for trying to turn this country in to a socialistic government. We the people that at least have half of a brain. Don't want any form of government telling us how we have to take care of everbody elses problems. For we have enough of our own problems totake care of. (Poor infrastructure, Lack of immagination, to change the status quo.) For instance instead of having floods all over the country every year, simply put 15' pipe lines along all major highways, channeling the water away form the flooded areas to areas that are dry and parched. or to storage containers until needed, in dry months.) And this is only one of many things that would fix the economy for generations to come. Plus it would be a good idea to fix the highways while your at it too.
