Quotes of the Day: 'Republicans remembered what it was like to win again'
November 04, 2009 9:58 AM
“Independent voters found new homes. Surge voters just plain stayed home. Republicans remembered what it was like to win again. Democrats remembered what it was like to run without Barack Obama on the ballot.” -- Rick Klein, ABC News, on Election Day 2009
“The real story here is, I think this thing is ambiguous. Yes, Democrats lost in New Jersey and Virginia, but if you look at those races, the factors were locals.” -- David Axelrod, senior adviser to President Obama
“For a president elevated to power on the back of history, the tears and euphoria of Grant Park feel like a thousand years ago.” -- Peter Baker, The New York Times, on the year since Barack Obama’s election
“The combination of Martin's experience (this will be his third time hosting) and Baldwin's multiple-Emmy-winning straight man style promises an evening of urbane wit, spot-on silliness and perhaps some banjo playin'.” -- Mary McNamara, The Los Angeles Times, on the choice of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin as co-hosts for the 82nd Academy Awards

Ha ha ha.
Hey Axelrod, NEWS FLASH, of course the factors were local in a localized election.
I bet tomorrow you'll tell us the sun rises in the east Mr. Capitan Obvious.

At the time of my writing this blog, 44,000 Americans are dying each year because if inadequate medical care, according to a report recently released by the Harvard University medical School.
Our infant mortality rate is twice as high as the infant mortality rate of Sweden, France, and Japan - primarily because of inadquate pre-natal care - according to a report recently released by the CDC.
Internatinally 250,000 children are dying throught the world because of the effects of global warming (Source: a report by Save the Children, published yesterday in the Telegraph.co.uk.)
Americans cannot get jobs because Wall Street either ships jobs overseas to slave labor sweat shops or imports "guest workers" whom they treat like slaves. Because most of the world is broke, there is no market for the goods that we do export - which also costs us jobs. (According to a report in the LA TIMES Business section, our exports make up for 7 % of our economy; in Germany, it's 40%.)
Although there is much chatter about small businesses being the engine of recovery, small business cannot succeed if people cannot afford to buy their goods or services. And since Americans are working harder and getting paid less - PLUS having to spend much of their paycheck on health insurance and repaying student loans - there's less money to spend elsewhere.
And the Republicans are salivating over their victory - Hubris breeds nemesis. Republicans want power - but when they get it all they give us is wars, bank failures, pollution, and global warming. (Which is destroying the agricultural industry in California.)
A victory for the GOP means a loss to the people.

I am an independent voter but I can only hope that Obama's "Dawn of New Leadership" is fading ito the "Twilight of New Leadership".
One can only wonder at Obama's agenda. Since he doesn't appear to be stupid he must be purposely on a mission toward crashing the dollar.
I can come up with no other logical explanation for the president and the congress (in spite of a warning from the CBO that the current national debt is unsustainable) to continue with a plan to double the debt to $24 trillion by 2019.
Whatever the conspiracy may be, the media is either a part of it or is afraid to ask the questions that need asking.

Axelrod to his lst grade teacher, "My dog ate my homework. It was the dog's fault. Yeah, that's the ticket!"
I also like when people string lots of words together: "southern, religious extremist, angry, white males, hate party and then add GOP and KKK merge.
If the democrats keep saying that foolishness, they will alienate a lot more people. FYI: New Jersey is not in the south.
I welcome sarcasm back IF you want to.
I'm waiting to go to work and this passes the time.

I guess this means that all of the Virginia and New Jersey residents over age 30 who were first-time voters in 2008, the MTV crowd, the park bench "residents" as certified by ACORN and everyone else who cast a ballot to be “part of history” in 2008 decided to stay home for their local elections.

ACORN is being held accountable at this time. They have their own fish to fry (and to defend).
They are in self-preservation mode.

A comment was made about the republicans destroying California agricultural industry due to global warming.
What about the democrats turning off the water supply to farmers in Fresno County? They are protecting a two-inch delta smelt fish. (Smelt fish over families! Farmers who have been there for generation after generation.) The smelt fish was okay during those years and years of farming. Why now? Either way, it's ridiculous.
Did they turn the water back on yet?
Re: Bank Failures
I again blame Barney Frank (he failed to do his job with the banking and housing laws). I also blame groups like ACORN who forced banks into loaning people money they could never have paid back due to their poor history.
I blame Congress (BOTH republicans and democrats and independens) who failed to protect the banking and housing laws (also by taking contributions from these industries - pretty shady dealings anyway you cut it. If you don't believe this, then refer to the end result of it all.)
Wars? When will Obama make a decision already? Is he getting close? Any word which way the wind is blowing? In the meantime, the soldiers are being hung out to dry. If he wants to stop the war, then do it. Either way, do something.

Every issue should be on the public ballot written in short common form not legal book length jargon full of exclusions, exceptions and several issues in one that leaves room for loopholes and dispute. Every issue should be on the public ballot; gun control or not, abortion or not, bailing out the financial institutes and car companies or give every employee over 50 $1 million with the stipulation they retire,(40 million new jobs available), They buy a new "American" car (Auto industry fixed) They buy a home or pay off their mortage (financial institutes fixed) the death penalty or not, mandatory insurance or hold companies who’s products are linked to all major diseases accountable: the producer’s of soda’s, candy pastries, msg, chips, cig’s, alcohol, etc and take some responsibility ourselves etc. All issues should be on the ballot and the popular vote MUST RULE.
The very best way to cut government spending is to eliminate every political position except that of the President and that position should be redefined as follows; Responsibilities are National Security, World affairs, promoting world peace.
ARE YOU READY FOR THIS, One randomly selected issue writer from each state would be hired. ARE YOU READY FOR THIS, Issues would then be placed on the public ballot. ARE YOU READY FOR THIS, the public votes. ARE YOU READY FOR THIS, the public vote rules!!! OMG, What a concept!!! ARE YOU READY!!!!!!
This is THE RIGHT THAT AMERICANS fight and die for, this is our right as American’s. Politician’s have taken that right from us only because we are letting them!!!! Are you on my team!!!

Unbelievable how soon we forget...What makes people think Pres. Bush brought us into war? I do not recall him sending in terrorists to kill innocent people (3,000 plus) who were sitting at their desks doing their normal daily routine or the police and firemen who tried to save them. We have done everything in our power to keep the world a safe place for our children to grow up in, to be able to go to school and play. Adults are able or were able to sit and speak freely about whatever they choose. As I recall Sept 11 was not planned by and executed by Pres. Bush, but the retaliation was and not just by the President. The vast majority of the U.S. stood behind him or have we forgotten that. If Obama has his way, no one will be able to do anything without permission from the government.
