The Vicious Soccer Player Who’s Rough Play Has Gone Viral -- Feel Sorry (at all) For Her?

November 09, 2009 10:35 AM

It’s the takedown seen round the world.  Take a look.  A University of New Mexico soccer player named Elizabeth Lambert is caught on tape engaging in some completely over the top, ejection-worthy sort of play.  Now the video of her acts are zipping round the world.  The video is everywhere.  Certainly she should have gotten a great, big red card.  She should have been benched for many games. But does she deserve to have her ‘crimes’ spread across the globe?

We live in a society that seems top idolize those who behave in bad behavior..look at reality shows, sports figures and movie stars..the more despicabe they are the more money and fame we give them. This kind of behavior doesn't surprise me...the reaction to it does.

Yes she deserves it. She is the prime example of what's so terribly wrong in sports, today.

Not to mention today's report that team sports participants tend to be more prone to teen drinking, and to teen violence.

It is time for parents to wise up, and recognize that team sports is really not good for their kids. It keeps them from becoming decent people.

Where the devil are the coaches? Since they are tolorating or encouraging this they they should be eliminated

Yep, this stuff is why I walked away from the game after playing for 25 years. The game has gotten increasing violent over the years, and refs have turned the sport into a contact sport without the pads.

I agree 100% with Bkeeley's comment about the coach. The coach should be severely punished/penalized/suspended/banned however possible.

While these were very violent actions by this young lady, I disagree that sports are bad for young people. It does in fact teach them dicipline (if applied) and confidence. My kids stayed out of a lot of trouble when they were younger because they were too busy with school and sports.

It is unbelievable the refs missed this with so many people yelling (you can hear the crowds reactions each time she does something). It is even worse that her coach didn't pull her. I am not sure if she is their best defender, but do you want her to give the other team a free penalty kick because of her escalting actions or worse yet do you want your team to have the reputation you are thugs?

Suspended!! Why isn't this violent individual brought up on assault charges? I've known professionals that received worse punishment for less.

She should be pulled out forever. The game that has some phycial contact but this girl needs help two words!! Anger Management. Get out of the game!

For the hair pulling, she should:
1. Be barred from collegiate play indefinetly.
2. face criminal charge of assault and battery.

Why, though, is this kind of behavior tolerated, even sometimes expected, when a man is playing? We shouldn't be allowing these kinds of things to take place in sports, regardless of whether it's a girl's or a guy's team. And it also shouldn't matter whether it's a high school sports team or a professional team, they should all be made to follow the basic rules of the game.

Deserve it? I'm starting to think that people are now engaging in outrageous behavior, knowing they are on camera, IN HOPES of going viral with it! Next week she'll be on Letterman, then the book deal, then...

This one example is just the peak of the iceberg. This and other things I was aware of as a teacher made me forbid my daughter from getting into contact sports.
What is shown here does not touch the problem in the magnatude that needs to be addressed.
One final comment where was the coach and what were her parents teaching this individual woman at her formative period of life...
I think it is obvious...neither were in the right place at the right time and had the moral and ethical fiber needed...

The publicity is only fueling more of it and increasing the likelihood that the player will be on a professional team as money drawing novelty.

Whose, not Who's.

Sadly, I agree with Lisa. This ugly incident will likely only fuel Elizabeth Lambert's selfish ambitions of sports fame and money. Her parents are probably proud of how their little darlin' turned out. Shameful.

What's all the holler about? Aren't jocks (and the female equivalent) given a free pass to do .... well, whatever they want? We're in a society that makes heroes of such -- until they believe it themselves. This girl is acting upon the training she has been given -- and she's been well taught.

Posted by: jhaake | Nov 9, 2009 2:18:42 PM

leogorky -what kind of imbecile makes decisions about their children's lives and extra curicular activity based upon news stories?

Posted by: Jackson | Nov 9, 2009 2:19:57 PM

This is outrageous! She should be banned from sports altogether. The college should also look into disciplinary action against her. This female is a blight on society.
The coach should also be disciplined!

Posted by: Catherine | Nov 9, 2009 2:29:46 PM

The player should be banned, the coach should be penalized, and the refs investigated as to why they did not see any of this.

Why didn't the opposing teams' girls complain, or their coach?

Posted by: Steve | Nov 9, 2009 3:46:15 PM

It's just more shocking when it's a violent female, men are much more violent as in football etc. But they get called on it all the time and ejected. That girl ought to be barred, she not only pulled hair but kicked one in the face as well. This sets a terrible example to younger kids. They figure if she can get away with it than they can too. The coach and her parents ought to be barred from the game as well. Lousy unsportsmanlike like behavior.
