McCain started talking veepstakes, saying he has a list of about 20 possible running mates. The GOP nominee-to-be also said he hopes to pick early and have his choice settled prior to the Republican convention in early September.

You can read Bret Hovell's report by clicking here.
And watch McCain's remarks by clicking here.

Who do you think McCain will pick as his VP? And who do you think McCain should pick? What combination presents the strongest ticket for the GOP? What should McCain's strategy be in selecting his running mate? Talk about it in today's Daily Roundtable discussion.

If you'd like to join the discussion about George's reporting on Hillary Clinton saying Obama "can't win," click here.

CONSIDERING ALL OF THE TIMES THAT THE QUESTION: MR MCAINE, WHY SHOULDN'T EVERYONE HAVE ACCESS TO THE "SAME" HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE THAT CONGRESS AND THE SENATE HAVE? WAS ASKED, I SURELY THOUGHT THAT THE ONE ON ONE DIRECT QUESTION THAT GEORGE ASKED MCAINE WOULD FINALLY ELLICIT A DIRECT AND HONET ANSWER...DIRECT QUESTION...DIRECT ANSWER, RIGHT!!! McCAINES ANSWER WAS SOMETHING ABOUT HIS UNDERSTANDING HOW DIFFICULT IT WAS FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON TO GET COVERAGE...OR WORDS TO THAT EFFECT....THE NOT SO SUPRISING PART IS THAT GEORGE NEVER CORRECTED HIM OR REMIND HIM THAT, THAT WASN'T THE QUESTION!!!!!! MAYBE CHRIS MATHEWS SHOULD ASK THE QUESTION, AT LEAST HE FOLLOWS UP AND DOSEN'T ACCEPT A NON-ANSWER TO A QUESTION... WHY DO THESE INTERVIEWERS LET THESE GUYS GET AWAY WITH THIS B.S.???????????????

howcome noone has said anything about McCain's wife plagiarizing some cooking recipes right off the food network? Oh sure, but if it would have been Michelle Obama, she probably would've gotten her head chopped off. And if it would have been Hillary, she would of just brushed-it-off like she did when she "excused" herself for lying about running under sniper fire....
I wonder if those recipes were any good anyway.

How the heck can you go around preaching that you will never accept special interest funding? When at the same times someone makes a large contribution to your campaign that go un-questioned, according to Senator Clinton's ads. Did anyone of Senator Obama’s staffs investigate where these contributions came from? Do his staffs feel that special interest funds were pushed through other people? Some folks are truly wondering how over 40 million dollars were raised basically by an unknown at that time. Something is strange with this massive funding at a time when our economy is horrible and folks don’t have money to give away.

After listning to his ministers teachings for 20 years why whould obama now chose to seperate his self from him .As his minister said he was just being a pollitican,I think he will say and do what ever it takes to be president, ecept wear the flag or salute the flag, which is how americans honor and show respect for what it stands for, and this man whould like to be president of a country that he is not willing to show respect for or honor.the sad part is A lot of the people don't care.I am proud to be an american'thousands of people that come here every year will tell you the gratest day of there life is when they became an american citizen. This is for you George

If Hilary ends up as Obama's VP, McCain should pick a woman as his. Senator Elizabeth Dole immediately comes to mind - for one thing, who better to answer the phone at 3 am than the former head of the Red Cross?

And Libby's senator-ness matches Hilary's senator-ness. Also, Bob Dole as her husband may be an even better bet than Bill Clinton as Hilary's; less baggage, good reputation reaching across the aisle when he was a senator. Also a war hero like McCain, but of WWII, not Viet Nam.

Libby Dole is as conservative as they come, the Christian Right loves her.

And it gets her out of NC so we can get a Democrat back in the Senate - there are many dems here who haven't completely forgiven Edwards for giving up his Senate seat so it could go to the republican Dole.

Apparently, there is a boycott Fox news over Liz Trott's awful comments about Obama going on over at you tube. They have 1.5 million views and 15,000 signatures (and claiming this is only one of several petitions spanning hundreds of blogs) all calling for her to be fired and for Fox sponsors to be boycotted. Just thought it might be of interest to some.

The media keeps mentioning Senator Obama's race...his black heritage. I have no problem at all with his color. I am a mixture of Caucasian and Native American...specifically Tsalagi Cherokee, and a person's race has no bearing on how I perceive him or her. Having said that, I do have serious concerns about embracing a candidate with Islamic ties when the primary objective of Islam is to wipe out America and Israel. What better way than to do it from within our country? A Muslim sympathizer in the oval office would be the ultimate coup. I can't help but wonder how much of Obama's financial backing is of Arab origin? After September 11, 2001 I have to question the motives of anyone with Islamic ties. If you want to label that racism please feel free. I label it wisdom.

If experience is such an issue, then why don't we look at all the old farts who over the years has gotten us into this mess? All of the presidents have a cabinet because no one can know everything about everything. It is hard for a newcomer to know all that goes on in a presidency unless they have been in politics for a long time, and we know how long time politics can jade anyone. I think we need some new blood that can maybe shake up a few things. Most all of our politics and government needs to be reminded of "THE PEOPLE" not just the people who can buy their vote and/or opinions.
I haven't heard anything about seriously reviving the middle-class and seriously shrinking the welfare-class. The rich are going to spend and not realize how much gas and groceries are because they don't do the actual buying and have disposable incomes. The rest of us only know the meaning of disposable income, we don't HAVE a disposable income. We continue as a nation to lower our standards to allow more people in but why didn't we keep our high standards and invite other people in with high standards. We have lowered our standards and yet we still think we have the right to tell other nations how they should live like us. We have turned colleges and universities, which are supposed to be places of higher learning, into places of higher athletics.
We out-stay our welcome in other countries, long after the wars, and for what? They become cushy posts for our military to sign up and see the world. Now that we need them in wars, we really should not be in to start with, we don't have enough troops. Put our non-violent offenders in the army with a gun and point them inthe direction of the enemy and turn them lose.
We as a nation, admit that we have a good justice system, though flawed, better than most. The truth is, its becoming more and more flawed by being less fair. Granted there are inocent people who get convicted, there are also guilty people who get off. Which is more dangerous??? Point being, the people who do get convicted often time live better, per capita, than those of us who are supporting them. How many law abiding individuals make $40,000+ per year that I last heard we spend per prisoner per year. Many who are forced to support them don't have cable, gym memberships, free medical & dental, free education, three hots and a cot. What happened to our prisons being more self sufficient, so that just maybe when they have served their FULL SENTENCE they have some sort of trade or skill?
I could go on and on about the things that matter to the people who are expected to bleed money, in the form of taxes, to pay for the things that benefit the wealthy and prolong the welfare reciepients.
LET"S HEAR SOME OF THE REAL ISSUES ON THESE POLITICAL FORUM SHOWS!!!!

Could someone please answer why Obama regonizes
his black side of the family and considers himself a black american, where in fact he is a malato, is that the change we will be expecting in the white house?
From white to black. where does that leave the whites? Too suspicious, this man.

Why did you not discuss why Obama shunned the wounded troops???? Off limits if your pushing Obama? What do Americans care what Germans think? Who cares what the French think? Obama has not won yet,, but hes acting presidential,,and hes not on the banking commitee,,,Dahhh. Listen we see this stuff every day and I made up my mind 2 months ago,,,and of all the friends I have,, work, family, neigbors, and just friends,,two are for Obama,,and its not debatible,,,. Were are you getting the pole numbers you come up with? Even white teachers and government workers,,,will not vote for him. This race is over and has been.

Did you see the recent John McCain ads?
What is this guy smoking? I thought Cindy was the crack smoker in the family. So long to a clean campaign. I hope the next time he get's melanoma; it metasticizes to his brain. At least that way he would have an excuse for his dumb *** ads.

To Barbara

Did you not here the part about Obama's White mom and White grand-parents. I think it was your ancestors who defined anyone with 10% Black blood as Black. Discuss this with them or your grand-parents. I'm sure they hold the same view.

Posted by: Brittany | Jul 30, 2008 6:31:47 PM

To An Opinion

I hope John McCain does not pick Condi Rice. I don't think the Hilliary Clinton base was looking for a Black FEMALE president.

Posted by: Brittany | Jul 30, 2008 6:36:30 PM

To Vivian,
It's weird that you would be a racist. One part of your ancestory all but wiped out the other part. Let me jog your memory-small pox in the blankets, killing the buffalos to eliminate food, pushing Natives onto reservations that were dry lands and basically unable to grow food. In fact where are the indigenous people at anyway? I think that is an assignment you need to handle and stop worrying about muslims who George Bush befriended.

Posted by: Brittany | Jul 30, 2008 6:48:24 PM

To Barbara again,
I'm sure if Obama wins, the Molato title will be used. I'm sure America (in all it's perfection), would rather call him that than Black.

Posted by: Brittany | Jul 30, 2008 6:52:37 PM

To Lindsay,
Not only did she steal recipes. She stole and used drugs from a charity organization she worked for, and I do not think that she did time for this. No one is talking about this. George Bush and his campaign spoke about it often. Obama is trying to run a clean campaign, but it's hard against drug addicts.

If I were to be president I would, have us using our own oil within 5 years. Just think of what would happen if the president stood up one day and said it is our goal to not use any foreign oil within 5 years. How is that America is not even a member of OPEC.I need someone to respond to this and let me know if Iam aloan

I can't believe it. Cokie and members of the panel were criticizing Obama for taking a vacation in his hometown. He didn't choose to be born in Hawaii. Cokie said he shouold have gone some place like Myrtle Beach and that he had a lot of time to visit his grand-mother, later. His grand-mother is 85!
By the way, he didn't choose his name either. His parents did, and if he had changed it the press would have brought it up.
