This Week Moves to the Newseum Tomorrow

It's finally time! After months of preparation, "This Week" is moving to the Newseum.

Tomorrow's premiere broadcast guest is Senator John McCain. We also have a "Classic Roundtable" with Sam Donaldson, Cokie Roberts and George Will.

Lch_as_cr_2 On Friday, we held a rehearsal from our new set overlooking the U.S. Capitol. George Stephanopoulos and George Will were there, and I had the privilege of standing in for Cokie Roberts alongside my colleague Matt Jaffe, who played Sam Donaldson.

The picture on the left provides a sneak peak of our new view. It's a screen grab from our practice roundtable. We're all listening intently as Sam's stand-in Matt discusses Barack Obama.

Tune in tomorrow for the real thing!

Your moderators at the Democratic debate were pathetically out of touch with voters. These are your best pundits? Talking about flag pins? About Bill Ayers? About priviledge which had been chewed over for a week? The questions raised in the first half of the debate were not only prejudicial, they irrelevant. Voters want to know what the candidates propose to do with the interfence of Iran in Iraq, about the support this country gives to Pakistan, about how their health care plans are to be paid for. They say voters want to know this kind of minutia. I think you want to know the minutia. It was a wasted opportunity and reflected badly on ABC.

The show needs a new host with some professionalism. Not a new set. At least Cokie, Will and Sam will be there to remind us of better times on "This Week."

Can't wait to see the new location. George is doing a great job, does his best work by himself. Maybe that should have been the way to go with the debate last week......

I have waited until today to try to calm down after the ABC "debate" last Wednesday night. Unfortunately, I am still angry about the first 45 minutes. Why did ABC call this a debate? Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos weren't fishing for ideas, opinions, plans. It seemed like a witchhunt more than anything else. Shame on Charles, shame on George. Peter Jennings was the professional's professional. Thanks to your unprofessional framing of the debate,, you've lost my support. I have stopped watching ABC national news.

Much hullabaloo about a new set? What about the huge failure of your handling of the last Democratic debate, George? When will you apologize for your inane questions? A pretty new set won't erase your missteps. We expected better from you. You insulted viewers who wanted to hear about the issues that matter.

I regularly watch "This Week . . ." on Sunday morning. I will watch tomorrow ONLY to hear if George responds to the well deserved criticism for his part in the debate. After tomorrow, I will not watch "This Week . . ."

I'm a fan of George S. but the debate was mishandled. Maybe you should say a few words and offer and apology tomorrow. What do you think?

I think that This Week needs more than a new set -- I am old enough to remember David Brinkley -- who was wise and clever enough to be subtle about his personal views. George just seems to be trying to be the star -- when a lot of us would rather that the focus be the topic at hand.

Newseum? Ad-Nauseum is more like it.

At the ABC "debate debacle, Charlie Gibson & George Stephanopoulos looked more a part of ABC's entertainment division rather than its NEWS division. Their performance severely damaged any credibility they had as journalists, and made ABC look pathetic.

I am still cracking up about Obama lovers WHINING cause they are FORCING Obama to talk about his past.

Obama lovers only want to talk about his NON DISPROVABLE RHETORIC that people wrote for him as the SOLE criteria to be elected president. He has no way to prove he can do any of the ridiculous things he talks about. Cant challenge him on that either i suppose.

Ok.

I promise world peace and BLISS for every american on a silver platter.

I win.

George, I'm not going to tell you and Charlie had reps of being top shelf and having the gumption and character to be the reporter that others look to for the insight and how to get the job done. Think back to 1992 and the statements you made in reference to the focus of then democratic choice Bill Clinton. You stated that the issues should be foremost without wasting the publics' time with piddley issues
instead of those that matter. For 45 minutes you, Charlie along with Senator Clinton nitpicked Senator Oboma with fecal matter issues wasting my time and accomplishing very little. I expect these tactics from Karl Rove and his cronies where his crossing the line changes on a daily basis.
I won't remind you that the first rule of telejournelism is to inform, the second is to entertain, and the third is trust. Was the the 30 pieces you recieved enough to buy your soul? All is not lost. To get back to where you were, you will have to remember what got you into journelism in the first place. Second, the publics' need to know has to have priority at least some of the time. Both you and Charlie are too good for this.

Sometimes going back isn't the worst thing you can do. I would hate for the last few days to determine where I get my Sunday morning politic....get back to the force

In an industry marked by lows, ABC set the mark with its "debate" on Wednesday. In the minds of abc "newsmen" the American electorate is going to determine the next president on the basis of jewelry, the use of the words "cling" and "bitter" and who has rubbed shoulders with the shadiest characters. I can see the fall election now--is it worse to sing "bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" than use the word "bitter" to describe those who have been exploited by Bushnomics. Is it worse to forget who is fighting who in Iraq or to remember sniper fire that wasn't? We need serious discussions of health programs, Iraq policy, environmental policy, etc. etc. You give us gaffes. You should be ashamed.

Your debate was great. I don't understand all the controversy!!! The fact that a presidental candidate is being asked "getting to know you" questions at the end of a primary should be the issue. All these journalists who carry water, get chills up thier legs and who are in the tank should be ashamed of themselves.

Great job on the debate. The whiners need to get out of the kitchen. The debate proved to me that Obama is a fake and Mccain will ride all over him. Hillary is proven and "her baggage has been rummaged". I am waiting for Obama's bimbo trouble soon or else he is gay and gets MSM like Chris Matthews aroused

ABC: Forget the Obozo crybabies. Keep up the good work and good luck!

I am interested to see if ABC has any self-respect left after the pathetic "debate" moderation. Will you objectively address the way it was handled, or whitewash like you have done by indicating that we the voters are so stupid we care about innuendo. I doubt it, since you haven't done so yet.

Might as well admit your failure as a news organization and continue to cede market share to the more professional cable networks.

George:

I was a regular weekly viewer of "This Week". Today and every Sunday from now on, I will watch Meet the Press instead, this only because of your disgusting performance in the recent Democratic debate.

John McCain will be your guest today. I wonder:

Will you ask John McCain if he loves America as much as John Hagee does? Will you ask John McCain if he believes (like John Hagee does ) that Hurricane Katrina was God punishing New Orleans for the planned gay pride parade?

If you don't you are a sad excuse for a journalist and your network is no better than Fox.

I think the debate was great! George and Charley are not afraid to ask the questions that Barack Obama DOES NOT WANT TO ANSWER. He proved to everyone that he is NOT PRESIDENTIAL. People should wake up. Barack Obama in ARROGANT AND DISRESPECTFUL. HE GAVE A DISRESPECTFUL GESTURE to a running mate in his own party. Talk about being positive???????

Note to ABC. "Tomorrow is now today".

I've been looking all over this site and I can't find out what time this "Newsroom" program is televised. Does anyone know? I'd like to watch.
