Oh, goody. David Brooks is on the Roundtable. Because certainly no one has had such vast insight into our political process this year and such - dare I say it? - pinpoint accuracy of our progress in Iraq. Yes, David Brooks, an exemplary, deep-thinking pundit among pundits. Well done, ABC News.

is it just me or is anyone else sick of Donna Brazille.........I mean really.

Donna Brazile, Super Delegate and Ruler of the Rules Committee!
1) Let's hear what was discussed off camera the night before with the wine drinking and during the 3 hour "lunch".
2) Is it true that there were the votes for a 50/50 split in Michigan, but Obama sacrificed for the sake of party unity.
3) Okay, Ms. Brazile, who are you endorsing? Time to stop flirting and commit!

Posted by: Graham P | May 31, 2008 11:55:29 PM

I am sick of George Will. He is unethical and should be banned from any journalistic role. Will himself called his role in Reagan's debate preparation "inappropriate". His position as a reporter gave him access to Carter's debate notes. Maybe this is how Regan looked so smart with his snappy comebacks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Will
Subjectively I find him pompous, superior and dull.

Posted by: Graham P | Jun 1, 2008 12:09:41 AM

Donna Brazile seems to me to be a woman of intelligence and experience who is thoughtful and therefore a cut above most of the pundits, who are predictably strident. As a conservative I have to say that I think she is usually wrong, but she is always likeable.

Posted by: Regulifilius | Jun 1, 2008 12:13:37 AM

Donna Brazille "always likable" that's a big stretch- but I bet you like people calling you their Boo like she does on CNN. I call her a "crock"- she ran AL Gore's campaign and anybody remember where that got us??? I think she's leading us in that same direction people in FL & Michgan can't stand her because she opposed a revote for them!! She sure wanted a revote for AL

Posted by: Enraged | Jun 1, 2008 12:36:19 AM

I'm a Donna Brazille fan and have conversed with her via email in the past, having been surprised to have received a response from her. I respectfully disagree with her positions on this nominating process. I've heard enough on "This Week" to indicate she is biased in favor of Obama. However, I admire her political skills, we are seeing one of the most skilled players of all time in action and she will be a power player for years to come.

anyone heard anything about this new video being shown Monday @ 9am of Michelle Obama ranting about white people from the stage at Trinity Church calling us "whitey" see link- apparently this is why he is seperating ways from the church also. How does he renounce her?

Posted by: Moderate in SD | Jun 1, 2008 12:42:07 AM

I find Brazile slightly annoying sometimes, but I like her because she doesn't try to act like someone else, she acts like herself. She is REAL. She doesn't put on the mask like everyone else who is afraid if they take off the mask, something scary will show. So, she's annoying sometimes. Aren't we all. That's real.

Posted by: Gina | Jun 1, 2008 12:44:44 AM

I saw the video that's coming his troubles have been minor compared to this...it's racial and very offensive and she is ANGRY! it might just hurt us but we still have the math!!

Posted by: Indy 08 | Jun 1, 2008 12:45:58 AM

Another racially dividing video is not what we need right now -esp with Hillary claiming the popular vote. at least Puerto Rico won't see it before voting but SD & Montana will since it's slated to be on morning news shows Monday. wholly mackeral batman

Posted by: Edwards Fan | Jun 1, 2008 12:49:04 AM

Great this will be all over the news cycle on Monday- I guess they are running it then for maximum news exposure Chris Matthews will be spitting all over the place :)

I'm with you there. Whenever I see Brazile or that woman on PBS (Gwen Ifil?), I want to puke.

Clinton > McCain >>>>>>>> Obama

Posted by: Brent | Jun 1, 2008 12:53:05 AM

I wish it were BS I saw it today and it is stunning. I think the loop is loaded on the internet somewhere by now if you google it. I had a friend in RNC that showed it to me. they've been holding it, according to my source there's an arsenal coming btw now and Nov. from MCBush

Posted by: Indy 08 | Jun 1, 2008 12:55:58 AM

can somebody put the link to the "whitey' video on here of Michelle Obama ranting I'd like to watch just for fun she is one angry woman!!

Posted by: enraged | Jun 1, 2008 12:59:09 AM

If they really have a video of michelle Obama singing 'whitie' from the pulpit, Obamas political career is finished.

Do you have a source for this?

Posted by: cgeast | Jun 1, 2008 12:59:44 AM

people have been claiming this for months, and i believe it was said to be a fake

if this video were out there, the clintons would have it... no doubt

Posted by: bhrandon | Jun 1, 2008 1:05:04 AM

Actually, I just looked into it and there is a video of Michelle Obama ranting. They are releasing it monday.

But the doubt is if she actually calls white folks 'whitie' .

It is irrelivant to me if she calls us whitie. So what.

But if she is ranting in the style Wright was, Obama's presidential career is probably over.

They would be running a dead loss candidate as his wife will be first lady and you cant 'chuck her under the bus'.

We shall see.

Posted by: cgeast | Jun 1, 2008 1:07:32 AM

my friend works for the RNC and had to watch every video of the last 20 years sermons that were on tape from Trinity and it was in there- RNC has others but this is most directly damaging to BO. They are rolling it out early due to the back and 4th & damage control on erros in McCain's Iraq statements to deflect!! Hillary's camp hasn't done so well in the spy part they didn't even expose rev wright.

Posted by: indy 08 | Jun 1, 2008 1:11:14 AM

Indy 08,
No way to tell if your comments are for real, and I suspect that this is another right wing whisper campaign that the Republicans are so good at, masterminded by Karl Rove himself. If not though, what is your source as to a Monday showing and where will this be shown? Where did you see it?

If it's driven by the right, though, it wouldn't come out Monday, it would be held for a more strategic moment. You are correct, though, if the content is as described it would be a showstopper and one that Obama would not be able to overcome. Frankly, I'm totally skeptical, but as a Hillary supporter and first an U.S.A. supporter such a tape clearly should be revealed before June 3rd, or at the latest before the convention.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | Jun 1, 2008 1:12:23 AM

We clinton supporters ALWAYS knew the republicans were keeping their mouths shut about Obama so they could SWIFT BOAT him to death in the general election.

I cant wait to see the video.

Posted by: cgeast | Jun 1, 2008 1:15:01 AM

west coast

Obama is trying to DITCH his church, so I suspect playing it 3 months from now will allow Obama to worm his way out of it easier.

I think the republicans didnt expect him to ditch his church.

Perhaps Obama's staff caught wind of the fact the republicans have it.

Posted by: cgeast | Jun 1, 2008 1:17:40 AM

The DNC has cloaked the entire primary election process in disgrace! Ickes was right, delegates were hijacked on saturday in Michigan, from Sen. Clinton, and awarded to Obama, a man who did not receive a single vote from those many hundreds of thousands of citizens who left their homes and jobs on a winter tuesday to make their voices heard. Obama chose to remove his name from the ballot in Michigan, depriving those citizens of the choice to vote for him, yet the Machine gave him nearly as many delegates as Clinton anyway! She did not campaign, or run ads in Michigan or Florida (like Obama did in FL), somehow though the fat cats and elitists awarded him nearly as many delegates as Clinton. The real audacity of hope is that the Obama campaign expects us people who he couldn't care less about, to vote for him in November against McCain, well he can just keep hoping! I'm out and maybe never will return to this dishonest party.

Posted by: Patrice C. | Jun 1, 2008 1:34:16 AM

CGeast,
Larry Johnson, who seems to be the source of this video claim, does seem to have a bit of a track record, if one is to believe his posted claims, although he seems to be a bit of a self-promoter. There is an extensive posting on wikipedia about him, but I frankly can't tell if he self-posted that too. He claims to have worked in counter-terrorism in the late 80's for the state department, and still works in the arena as a private consultant. He does get tapped as a reference by other bloggers, but they could be a small connected pool, perhaps other ex-CIA types interested in jointly pulling the wool over America's eyes.

So at this point I'm still at least 90% skeptical, although he does deliver a time certain to release it, as of 9 AM on Monday. If it doesn't happen then this needs to be the end of such nonsense, future such claims will be DOA.

If it's true, though, I would say that the cliche that you should not ever count the Clintons out would start carrying a bit of mysticism with it, nothing short of a miracle.

I don't wish for racism in any corner, but if it's there the sun should be shown on it and let's get it on.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | Jun 1, 2008 1:39:04 AM

CGeast,
By the way, your analysis as to the driver for the RNC certainly makes good sense. My thought was that Obama was concerned that the press might play the rules committee settlement in his disfavor so he came out with a contravening story to try to capture the ink. Just the opposite happened, so he may have shot himself in the foot, if that is indeed the sole driver. It seems like he would have better intel and projections about how this would play in the press, so it makes sense that there is something else afoot and he wants to trump it. If it turns out to truly be a spousal rant about "whitey" then its certain that the American public will ever allow Michelle Obama to occupy the White House. The guy would have to divorce her between now and November as his only fallback position.

It's not so clear that the Democratic Party would hold him to the same standard, though, we tend to forgive people's connections to a fault.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | Jun 1, 2008 1:47:08 AM

General elections are won and lost on a LOT less than this.

John Kerry is a distinguished war hero with an impeccable past. Rich with experience .

He got SWIFT BOATED and lost an election he should have won.

But somehow Obama is going to survive all this in a general election setting?

With FURIOUS Clinton supporters on top of all of Obamas other headaches?

How ???????????????????????????

Posted by: cgeast | Jun 1, 2008 1:58:58 AM

May be a little bit longer shot for him, but he still could still slip by on delegate math. Enough of the remaining SD's could buy that he's not responsible for his wife's actions, and throw up other cases, like Kerry's wife. I absolutely agree that he would not make it through the general on this one, but I'm not as confident about the Demo nomination, again, if this rumor is true. Logically, you would expect a bit of a backlash from the pledged delegates, though, and his original speech on race will now become a liability for him. It already has because of Wright and the other pastor guy, who's name now escapes me.

Posted by: WestCoastMessenger | Jun 1, 2008 2:13:55 AM

i have no idea if they really have a tape of Michelle ranting.

I dont think even the most diehard Obama supporter would honestly say shes not capable of it. She is pretty darn angry .

But having Michelle Obama ranting and raving on tape is so detrimental to his career, its possible they were waiting to show it during the fall for more effect right at voting time.

But if he quit his church, they very well may have to play it right now.

The surge gaffe doesnt mean much right now. Its nowhere near as big as the delegate split and Obama's church.

All due respect to the Hillary supporters. You guys are awesome and you have fought a brilliant battle for her nomination. I have much respect for your choice. I too was once a Clinton supporter and I voted for Bill 2 times.

I made a conscience decision to switch to Obama in the voting booth in the California primary. I didn't make a hasty switch. I was in the booth and a light went on in my head and all I could hear was "CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN" and" YES WE CAN" and I am not easily influenced politically. For the first time in my 42 years as a registered democratic voter I felt that something good could come from his message.

It is not going to be an easy assignment but with all of us democrats working together we can help our economy and we can find a better solution to the ongoing war in Iraq. I am proud of the DNC for making a tough decision the opposition was very tough. I salute all of the committee members for doing the right thing.

In all honesty the people of Florida and Michigan were lead astray by the republican political figure heads in their states. They all knew there were alternative remedies to their voting schedule but they failed to get it done. Going forward the Florida elections committee needs to renovate their system so it
accommodates each parties voting timeline.

Michagan made a good point that needs to be addressed no states should have the advantage to have early primaries I think the committee needs to revisit the current policy and include those issues in CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN. Vote OBAMA 20008

Posted by: Lou | Jun 1, 2008 3:49:56 AM

Hey Lou.

I can tell you without a DOUBT, your post is the BEST Obama post I have EVER seen.

EVER.

If all you Obama supporters would start talking like LOU, Obama wont have much to worry about with many Clinton supporters.

But he will still have problems with conservative 'reagan' democrats who are still choked at him for his bitter gate comments.

He needs to work for their vote.

Obama could solve many of his problems by offering HIllary the VP spot.

She is definitely interested in change, and in all fairness, its the voters will.

I love Donna Brazile!I always look forward to seeing her on This Week. Her perspective is always "real". She always lays it on the table (no pun intended)and tells it what it is. I can't wait to see her this morning after watching her yesterday at the Rules Committee meeting.

Donna Brazille doesn't have to commit.

Why? Because we already know that she is for Obama.

Hey Donna! I got news for you; that is, the DNC Rules Committee gave Michigan and Florida 1/2 vote for each delegate.

However, to protest the unDemocratic National Party's Rules Committee, I giving my full "one" vote to John McCain, and I encourage all Hillary supporters to give their respective full "one" vote to John McCain too!

Fact: Obama is not a muslim. He is a christian.Religion is not a problem.
Fact:Obama is a Black American.Race and color do not matter.America is ready for a Black president ? media and men bias against a woman
Fact:The TUC is spewing racism / anti american / anti semetic / pro terrorist sentiments for the past 20 years. It did not happen after BO decided to run for presidency
Fact:The congregation of TUC particpated fully in this kind of denigration of American values. The post 911 MSNBC video of Rev Wright shows Michelle Obama in the front row and standing up to applaud and sit down
Reasoning: BO like his wife was in this church for the past 20 years and was as vigorous and ardent participant of the pulpit BS.
Fact:BO has tried to distance himself very slowly in increasingly shifting language for poliical convenience just in order to be come the President of the US.He has tried to justify TUC and Wright, then increasingly disssociate before dumping everyone to save himself. This man is no uniter. He will sell his mother.
Fact:BO is no ordinary man. He wants to become the President of the US and the leader of the free world.
Question:Is the nation as dumb as the Democratic party and its leaders to elect this man as a president?
Disclosure:I am a Floridian Reagan Democrat and registered independent. My voting record is as follows. Reagan X2. Clinton X 2. Bush Jnr X 1. That was my most stupid vote ever and I will regret it forever. This man is the worst president in our history. Kerry X 1. Now despite hating the Republican party with such great animosity, I am voting Dem for congressional and JM for presidency if HRC is not the choice.

Hillary Clinton Supporter:
WHAT DO YOU WANT???????????????????????

This is an election. This is not fantasy land.

Hillary Clinton: We all know the votes wont count

Terry McCauliff: Threatened to do the same thing when he was over the DNC

ICKES: Voted that Fl and MI should not count

NOW

Each story is DIFFERENT

Obama did not campaign in either state and you know that when Obama hits the ground in a state the numbers begin to tighten and I believe he had a good chance at winning Michigan.

STOP CRYING ALREADY. BIG BABIES. REMEMBER ... YOU ARE ADULTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every law abiding citizen knows this concept

SO YOU SAY
I must drive the speed limit. I must put money in the parking meter, I must file my taxes, I must pay my bills, I must not cheat on my exams, I must pay for merchandise in the store..

But the rules that will determine the next president of the united states of america...... let's go willy nilly make up baseless claims, change the rules to suit our favor, threaten the party by chanting "Let Go McCain????????????"

Wow and they are going to Mars to look for aliens... THEY'RE HERE

Do we have to listen to Terry McAuliff? He is such a looney.

Maybe he should go over to Fox since he says they are so fair and balanced.

They all will be promoting obama.

The major security threat this nation has ever faces.

He can not beat McCain.

The primaries are not over.

Posted by: seah | Jun 1, 2008 8:41:22 AM

This was the worst decision the DNC could have made.

Florida above all will not forget this in the general election.

Michigan is over also.

This decision should be overruled if anyway possible or McCain will win the general election.

Posted by: Rick from Pa | Jun 1, 2008 8:42:05 AM

How dare the committe overturn the people's wishes.

Obama is supporting the government.
Clinton is supporting the people.

Don't you think Florida and Michigan voters know that?

That is the end of the election. McCain just won.

If I were the DNC I would overturn this if anyway possible.

Posted by: Rick from Pa | Jun 1, 2008 8:46:03 AM

Florida were stripped votes in 2000.
Now again.

Are Democrats crazy.

No one in these states other than maybe African Americans will vote for Obama.

Republicans have planned to have Obama the nominee so they would win this.

They are dancing in the streets because they know that Obama is not electable.

Posted by: Rick from Pa | Jun 1, 2008 8:50:10 AM

This is such a racial election it is disgusting.

Senator Clinton has been acused of being a racist.
Obama's first pastor has preached white hatred
Obama's second pastor has preached white hatred by introducing the third Reverend friend of Obama, Rev. Pflager.
Obama's black voters are voting 95 percent for him

You tell me who the racist is?

Posted by: A Girl from SC | Jun 1, 2008 8:53:16 AM

It will be interesting to see what Terry McCauliffe has to say this morning, especially on any thinking on taling the fight over Fl and Mi to the convention. I personally believe that would be a horrific mistake. I think its time for the Dems to move on from that fight. Lets get together, and turn the fire on Republicans across the country and ensure we get a Democratic Congress and as many Democratic governors around the country and perhaps most importantly Barack Obama elected as President of the United States.

But I hope you don't have kids. McCain has uttered the words "draft" 4 times in the last month. Wonder why?

My 18 YO son is type 1 diabetic, so he is exempt, but all his friends are not. McCain insists Bush was right to go war and wants to expand it to Iran. Who will fight these wars? Look around your family and decide which kids are expendable. Which one's are you willing to be killed in a war we have no business fighting. Then go and tell THAT kid you will vote McCain and tell THEM why.

Howard Dean is the most annoying individual on the face of the Earth. He can twist and turn things as well as any pathological liar. He is the poorest excuse for a leader I have ever seen. Their actions did not unify this party. Nothing he has done has been for the benefit of the party. It has all been for the benefit of the candidate "the party" wishes to support, not the candidate the public wants.

The DNC leadership has been in trhre same hands for to long an the party power has beed concentrated to a few dozen members because of super delegates. Im sick of it. Im leaving the party an either writing in my own candidate for the first time or voting for Mr. McCain.

George demonstrated a subtle form of the sexism that Howard Dean tried to discuss as a vital issue in American politics and in the American Culture.

How? By first interrupting Dean, then interrupting him again and then by turning away from his point when the other guest responded (non verbally) to the question he posed as his second interruption. Stephanopolis did not allow Dean to finish his very valid point.

Then the 3 of them finally simply moved on to the topic GS introduced as an interruption to Dean's point.

When any one makes a valid comment, to receive such a complete non-response is utterly invalidating and insulting. Its like dropping pennies into a bottomless well, you never know if or when your point finally hits home.

Dean's point is an essential one for this culture. If the same kinds of comments, trinkets (like the "Hillary nut-cracker" sold at airport stores) or jokes that have been made about Clinton had been made about either of the other
candidates based on their race, or economic status there would be an uproar, as there should be.

So, George: Stop that! be part of the solution and stop being part of the problem.

Posted by: chris McCauley | Jun 1, 2008 11:17:20 AM

I am stunned. Are these people so detached in their ivory towers that they do not realize racism is alive and well in America? They never address this. Everyone is so afraid to say it, but it is a factor nonetheless. It is present in a great many emails I have read concerning this campaign and election. Come on George, like Chris McCauley above said, "if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem!!!" Stop being part of the problem George!!! Address the things that scare you and everyone else in this country!!!

Posted by: Yo | Jun 1, 2008 11:26:13 AM

For George Stephanopoulos:

Sir,

Please consider making the point that SENATORS Clinton and Obama each have earned the title "Senator" and regardless of one's political point of view, journalists ought to know to use those titles rather than the candidate's first names. Certainly, during this ground-breaking race for office, respect is paramount.

It seems to me that everyone that represented the Obama campaign yesterday was offering a compromise in either state but the Clinton camp just refused to show any kind of ability to bend even a little, to quote Mrs. Joyner "We want it all". It just shows whats impotant to Clinton and its not unity.

It is my opinion that we have had 2 terms of George Bush and that we had an unopposed entrance into the Iraq war because the press has not done its job!

I would love to hear, during THIS WEEK, and all other news/talk shows the following:

Please answer the question...you did not answer the question...we can not just move on until you answer the actual question.

Then we, the voters will actually get answers, not just spin!
