Abc_hilscher_070418_blog Emily Jane Hilscher, of Woodville, Va., was also killed in the dorm shooting. Hilscher was a freshman animal and poultry sciences major who lived next door to victim Ryan Clark. She came to Virginia Tech from rural Rappahannock County, where she was known as an animal lover, said family friend Will Nachless to The Associated Press. She "was always very friendly. Before I even knew her, I thought she was very outgoing, friendly and helpful, and she was great in chemistry."

Young and beautiful with the whole world in front of her. May Emily rest in peace. And even in this dark hour, may her friends and family be guided through this tragedy by the light of her smile that is shown in this picture and by God's healing hand. God Bless!!

There are no words to leaven the pain of your loss and this tragedy. But the following is a humble offering that hopefully will bring some comfort, when you feel the sun shining again:

In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we remember them.

In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.

In the opening of buds and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.

In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them.

So long as we live they, too, shall live for they are now a part of us as we remember them.

Don't stand beside my grave and weep.
For I'm not there. I do not sleep.
When you awake from sleep in hush,
and hear the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circling flight;
Or in the soft starlight of night,

I'll be that gentle breeze that blows,
in moonlit glints of falling snow;
Or sunlight on the ripened grain,
after a gentle autumn rain.

Don't stand beside my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.

To Emily family: Your daughter had such a bright smile. and a loving person, now she in the left hand of our father.

Posted by: Joe | Apr 20, 2007 5:27:30 PM

What a smile. I can imagine Emily, like most animal lover, bringing every lost dog and cat home. I have a daughter her age who is away at college and I still have the stray cat she nursed back to health in her Senior year.
I only know Emily from the news but, when I look at Emily's picture this is the person I see. A heart as big as her smile. My prayers to her family and friends.

To Emily's friends, and family. There are, of course, no words that can properly assuage the pain, the numbing sorrow that you feel right now. Time and the tides will help the healing process, something which all of you have begun. Since words (and even music) seem kind of trite and pointless at the present time, please accept the gift of my love and the love of others in the world that have been so affected by this unspeakably senseless act. I shall try to remember Emily's smiling face as an antidote when I feel cynical about the state of our world. She'll help me (and many, many others) to do good, which is all God asks any of us. I am so incredibly honored for this opportunity to communicate the way I feel. God bless.

I am so sorry for your loss. I also have a daughter in the animal science program in PA and I know she has a place in Heaven. The Lord will take care of her. I am sure that you miss her. Try to hold on to the vision of her smile with her animals and while she rode horses. May that be how you can remember her. God Bless You All!

Your daughter and her family and friends are in my prayers. I also have a daughter who will be a Biology major intending to go to vet school. We looked at Va tech, since I went there. Animal lovers have a special place in heaven, with God's special protection. May he bless and comfort you.
