Erin Peterson, 18, Chantilly, Va.
April 18, 2007 6:55 PM
Erin Peterson, a graduate of Westfield High School -- the same high school that the gunman attended -- was a freshman international studies major and, at 6 feet 1, the center for her high school basketball team, according to The Associated Press.
"She was just a super child," her godfather, William Lloyd, said. "Her and her dad, man, you couldn't separate them. He lost a child from cancer -- a daughter, 8 years old. A week later, [Erin] was born."

Dear Peterson Family,
I can't imagine the grief you feel right now. Erin seemed like such a wonderful young woman - gone too soon. May God comfort you during your time of grief.

I have no connection to anyone there, and only know what I have seen on the news.
However, I have been absolutely crushed by what I have read, and my own soul grows heavy thinking about your loss.
I have prepared a "Life Book" for my own 19 month-old son, Roman. I want to give it to him as a gift when he turns 18, so he knows things about the world that he grew up in, things about his father.
I could not imagine the pain of losing him, and yet you have lost 2 children. I hope you are able to find strength in this time, knowing that the entire world weeps with you.
I will put this picture of your daughter, along with this short story--I want him to see and understand how violence can affect people, how there is so much potential in youth, and how we should live each day to the fullest.
My prayers are with you.

Dear Peterson Family,
I have to extend my deepest sympathies to you at this time. As a mother of a 18 yr. old son & hoping to go to college this coming Fall, I can not imagine to pain that you are feeling now. Erin seemed like the kind of young woman who would have had alot of promise ahead of her regarding her educational career & she would have made "noise" doing it!! But at this time, celebrate her life, thank God of the Heavens & Earth for blessing you of Erin in YOUR life but most important, let God hear your prayers for that "He stores your tears in a skinbottle"....
Warmest regards,
Yolanda

EACH OF YOU LIKE AN ANGEL
WHO SUDDENLY LEFT US,
WE ARE SADDENED & EMPTY,
BUT NEED TO BE STRONG,
IT'S BEYOND UNDERSTANDING
WHY SUCH A NICE PERSONS
WOULD BE TAKEN FROM US
LIKE IT'S WIPED WITH A STORM.
WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER
YOUR STRIVE FOR SUCCESSES,
AND YOUR DREAMS,AND YOUR PROJECTS,
YOUR BIG GIVING HEARTS,
YOU WERE LOVED, AND FOREVER
WE THINK OF YOUR JOURNEY,
YOU WERE BRINGING US JOY
THAT WE NEVER FORGOT.

There are no words to leaven the pain of your loss and this tragedy. But the following is a humble offering that hopefully will bring some comfort, when you feel the sun shining again:
In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.
In the opening of buds and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them.
So long as we live they, too, shall live for they are now a part of us as we remember them.

Don't stand beside my grave and weep.
For I'm not there. I do not sleep.
When you awake from sleep in hush,
and hear the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circling flight;
Or in the soft starlight of night,
I'll be that gentle breeze that blows,
in moonlit glints of falling snow;
Or sunlight on the ripened grain,
after a gentle autumn rain.
Don't stand beside my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
