Abc_loganathan_070417_blog_2 A professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Tech, Loganathan was teaching an advanced hydrology class in Norris Hall when he was shot by the gunman. He was born in the southern Indian city of Chennai and had been a professor at Virginia Tech since 1982, as reported by the Indianapolis Star. Logonathan had amassed numerous awards for his teaching -- the most recent in May 2006 -- and had been listed among the best 10 teachers at the college in 2001 and 2002.

In addition to teaching, Logonathan served on the faculty senate and was an adviser to approximately 75 undergraduate students. In an interview with the NDTV news channel from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, his brother G.V. Palanivel said, "We all feel like we have had an electric shock. We do not know what to do. He has been a driving force for all of us, the guiding force."

I wanted to share this: It was part of a xanga.com blog of a student at VT this week....it really touched me and thought the family and friends of the professor would be touched too......

"Dr. Loganathan died. He was my professor at one point. I got an email from the CEE department. I started crying and I just locked myself in my room. He was such a good professor, you don't even understand. He was this quirky, nerdy guy. Always smiling. He did this thing where he always had his hand in his pocket when he wrote on the board, so by the end of class his pants were smeared with chalk. I remember one class when he was holding a sheet of paper. He got frustrated with it and said "I'm tired of this sheet." The class laughed, then he laughed when he realized what it sounded like. I wish I had thanked him."

EACH OF YOU LIKE AN ANGEL
WHO SUDDENLY LEFT US,
WE ARE SADDENED & EMPTY,
BUT NEED TO BE STRONG,
IT'S BEYOND UNDERSTANDING
WHY SUCH A NICE PERSONS
WOULD BE TAKEN FROM US
LIKE IT'S WIPED WITH A STORM.

WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER
YOUR STRIVE FOR SUCCESSES,
AND YOUR DREAMS,AND YOUR PROJECTS,
YOUR BIG GIVING HEARTS,
YOU WERE LOVED, AND FOREVER
WE THINK OF YOUR JOURNEY,
YOU WERE BRINGING US JOY
THAT WE NEVER FORGOT.

I grieve with you for the loss of such a remarkable person. May you find comfort through family/friends support and precious memories. Please do not become filled with hate but instead love like there is no tommorow. We don't know why such tragedies happen, but through such pain we need to create positive change. My faith has me believe that you will all be reunited again someday. Please accept my prayers and love during your time of sorrow.
