Ap_ortiz_070417_blogJuan Ramón Ortiz, a graduate student from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, was killed while teaching a class, according to the North Carolina News and Observer.

The teaching assistant, who was recently married, leaves his wife, Liselle Vega, also a student at Virginia Tech. Neighbors in Bayamon remembered Ortiz as a quiet, dedicated son who decorated his parents' one-story concrete house every Christmas. "He was an extraordinary son, what any father would have wanted," said Ortiz's father, also named Juan Ramón Ortiz.

For his parents just remember, a person dies when you stop thinking about them and I know you will be think of Juan every day and the beautiful legacy he left behind.

I grieve with you for the loss of such a remarkable person. May you find comfort through family/friends support and precious memories of times shared with Juan. Please do not become filled with bitterness/hate but instead love like there is no tommorow. We don't know why such tragedies happen, but through such pain we need to create positive change. My faith has me believe that you will be reunited again someday. Please accept my prayers and love during this time of such sorrow.

Nuestros pesames llegan a ustedes de Long Island New York.
