Rt_granata_070417_blog_2 Kevin Granata, a professor in Virginia Tech's Engineering Science and Mechanics Department, served in the military before coming to Virginia Tech. He and his students researched muscle and reflex response and robotics. Granata was described by colleagues as one of the top biomechanics researchers in the country, working on movement dynamics in cerebral palsy.

According to fellow engineering professor Demetri P. Telionis, Granata was successful and kind.

"With so many research projects and graduate students, he still found time to spend with his family, and he coached his children in many sports and extracurricular activities," Telionis told The Associated Press. "He was a wonderful family man. We will all miss him dearly."

As a mother of a child with cerebral palsy, I am deeply saddened by the loss of this wonderful man who devoted his career to making this world a better place for people with CP. I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers - God bless.

It is so sad that this wonderful man along with all the other brilliant minds and souls have been taken away by such a selfish person. I hope the killer's family pays for this many times over, depriving our world of the greatness all these people could have contributed.

Don't blame the family of the killer. He acted alone. They too are suffering this tragedy.

There are no words to leaven the pain of your loss and this tragedy. But the following is a humble offering that hopefully will bring some comfort, when you feel the sun shining again:

In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we remember them.

In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.

In the opening of buds and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.

In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them.

So long as we live they, too, shall live for they are now a part of us as we remember them.

EACH OF YOU LIKE AN ANGEL
WHO SUDDENLY LEFT US,
WE ARE SADDENED & EMPTY,
BUT NEED TO BE STRONG,
IT'S BEYOND UNDERSTANDING
WHY SUCH A NICE PERSONS
WOULD BE TAKEN FROM US
LIKE IT'S WIPED WITH A STORM.

WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER
YOUR STRIVE FOR SUCCESSES,
AND YOUR DREAMS,AND YOUR PROJECTS,
YOUR BIG GIVING HEARTS,
YOU WERE LOVED, AND FOREVER
WE THINK OF YOUR JOURNEY,
YOU WERE BRINGING US JOY
THAT WE NEVER FORGOT.

Watching the news was so heartwrenching. When I could not watch any longer the news began to describe the lives of the individuals who died. I was utterly stunned by the talent than was taken. My sypathy to the children who lost their father, the wife who lost her soulmate, and the students who lost their teacher.

I grieve with you for the loss of such a remarkable person. May you find comfort through family/friends support and precious memories. Please do not become filled with hate but instead love like there is no tommorow. We don't know why such tragedies happen, but through such pain we need to create positive change. My faith has me believe that you will all be reunited again someday. Please accept my prayers and love.
