Matt La Porte, 20, Dumont, N.J.
April 18, 2007 7:03 PM
Matthew La Porte was a sophomore from Dumont, N.J., an Air Force cadet at Virginia Tech and reportedly credited the Carson Long Military Institute in New Bloomfield, Pa., with turning his life around during his duration there in high school.
Carson Long released a statement saying, "Matthew was an exemplary student at Carson Long whose love of music and fellow cadets were an inspiration to all on campus." The tiny military academy observed two minutes of silence Tuesday in its own French class -- la Porte was gunned down while in a French class at Virginia Tech -- and moved the flag to half-staff in remembrance of its alum.

There are no words to leaven the pain of your loss and this tragedy. But the following is a humble offering that hopefully will bring some comfort, when you feel the sun shining again:
In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.
In the opening of buds and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them.
So long as we live they, too, shall live for they are now a part of us as we remember them.

Matt will be missed by all who knew him and by all of us who are only getting to know him now through his death. May his spirit soar higher than he ever thought possible and may those that were left here to greive find solace in the life that Mattlead. Keep the memories close.
My prayers to the family.
