Ap_vatech_white_070420_bl Nicole was an international studies major who loved animals and the water. A Smithfield, Va., native, White graduated with honors from Smithfield High School, and was a junior at Virginia Tech when she was gunned down while in German class.

Friends told the Virginian-Pilot that Michelle was full of life and loved to have fun. She was a lifeguard at the YMCA when at home in Smithfield. At 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17 there was a moment of silence observed in her honor at Smithfield High School, and a writer listed on Facebook as Ginny Gwaltney, a friend from Smithfield High, said on the site, "I love you, and I'll see you again, Angelface."

This is truly one of the saddest tragedies I've ever seen. My family and I are sending our deepest condolences and prayers to the family and friends of all of these professors and young people. I am so saddened by this all I can do is shake my head in disbelief. I cannot imagine the depth of despair that is being felt by the families. May God bless and give you strength beyond what is normal for the days ahead. I'm so sorry.

I understand how the VT students & families feel concerning loss of life, but I need to know the details of what happend to continue to exist in my world.

I need to teach my children that the world doesn't always make sense and that mental illness must be taken serious. It isn't something that should be dismissed. There is underlying horror in this event that can't be ignored - males that are bullied by their peers.

I'm a mother of two college graduates (one male and one female) and I have two girls still in high school. I hope my children never find themselves in a situation as dangerous as what happened in VT. I hope they do not slip into mental illness. I hope that those that are feeling lost find their way.

My sympathies go to every family touched by this tragedy. There is no reason.

And my thanks goes out to the media for warning me.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the families. All those lost were special gifts to us. This whoe tragedy fills our hearts with sorrow and grief. Life will never be the same.

My thoughts are with the families and students of Virginia Tech, I also agree that enough is enough. The shooter does not need to be glorified and have his statements aired instead if anything has to be aired talk about the victims and their families. So he was bullied and teased in school, so was I, you don't see me out gunning people down and video taping myself.

The brutality and complete abandonment of sanity in this world is horrendous. Innocent loss of life caused by an individual who should have been in counseling and on anti-psychotic medicine. Maybe police will step up to prevent this kind of crime in the future. They say they could not act but who will act when police are complacent or hampered by law? They need to realize that the way to prevent these horrible mass murders is to proactively investigate individuals that are reported to openly show hostility. Virginia gun laws are incredibly negligent and allowed a person with a mental instability to purchase guns. Why do we never learn?

No words can heal the tremendous pain and emptyness that you feel at this time. But the only thought that I want to send is thoughts of happyness and as hard as it is, remember to celebrate your lost one's lives. Only time will heal and I want you all to know that my thoughts and prayers, as well as the rest of the worlds', are with you! GOD BLESS!

My heart and prayers go out to each and every one involved. I pray that we as a people in this great country can find it within our hearts to forgive, not to say that we will ever forget the what happened on Monday. I hope and pray that this will eventually teach us that no matter where you come and no matter what your culture is people are people and should be respected. Let's learn to love one another despite our differences.

May you only remember the good times spent with your loved ones or friends that lost their lives on April 16, 2007.

35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen

I can't imagine the loss of a child at all; much less at Va. Tech with its peaceful, pasotoral setting. As an alumnus of Tech and as father and grandfather, my sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this tragedy. Today everyone is a Hokie and grieves.

We must pledge ourselves to turn this tragedy into positve steps to see that it is far less likely to occur again. That would truly honor those whose lives were so needlessly ended and their families.

May God bless,

Don't stand beside my grave and weep.
For I'm not there. I do not sleep.

When you awake from sleep in hush,
and hear the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circling flight;
Or in the soft starlight of night,

I'll be that gentle breeze that blows,
in moonlit glints of falling snow;
Or sunlight on the ripened grain,
after a gentle autumn rain.

Don't stand beside my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
