Rachel Hill, 18, Glen Allen, Va.

April 18, 2007 7:05 PM

Ap_hill_070419_blog Rachael Hill, from Henrico County, Va., lived in West Ambler Johnston Hall. She graduated from Grove Avenue Christian Academy, and school officials told the Richmond Times-Dispatch she had attended the 261-student academy from kindergarten through high school graduation where she was captain of the volleyball team. Hill was also known for spicing up her conservative school uniform with Converse high top sneakers. She played the piano, and had not yet decided on a major but was interested in biology.

In her high school yearbook, Hill chose a C.S. Lewis quotation: "God, who foresaw your tribulation, has specially armed you to go through it, not without pain but without stain."

Celebrate the life of Rachel with Light, Love and Peace.

I heard about the loss of this beautiful young lady from one of my best friends who attends Grove Avenue Baptist Church (who knew of her). My heart breaks at the loss of these precious lives but I want Rachel's family to know that, although I never met her, I am encouraged by the quote she wrote in her yearbook. It takes a special person walking closely with the Lord to have the foresight to think as deeply as she did at her young age, quoting one of the great theologians of the 20th Century. She is definitely Home and without stain!

I want you all to know that we are praying for you during this time of tragedy. What a wonderful young lady. So many plans and dreams. You've done a great job as parents. People do care about you and your family. May you lean upon God and your faith strongly at this time in your life.

There are no words to leaven the pain of your loss and this tragedy. But the following is a humble offering that hopefully will bring some comfort, when you feel the sun shining again:

In the rising of the sun and in its going down, we remember them.

In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.

In the opening of buds and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.

In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember them.

So long as we live they, too, shall live for they are now a part of us as we remember them.

Don't stand beside my grave and weep.
For I'm not there. I do not sleep.

When you awake from sleep in hush,
and hear the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circling flight;
Or in the soft starlight of night,

I'll be that gentle breeze that blows,
in moonlit glints of falling snow;
Or sunlight on the ripened grain,
after a gentle autumn rain.

Don't stand beside my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.

I was so blessed at Rachel's testimony through her yearbook quote, and know she's with the Lord right now, enjoying His Presence and Peace. It's my prayer that your grief is somehow lessened by her beautiful life, and her incredible faith.

Rachel, Had so much to give back to the world. She was such a loving person.

Let Christ be your comfort and your strength, for there is no other that will see you through such a terrible time. Rachel is now with Him and you will see her one day, as I will see my own beloved son. I have no other words, but I weep with you and pray that many young people will follow her example of faith.

When I get to heaven I will ask God why? It seems those that have the most to give are taken the soonest. Perhaps it is because their light shines so bright that they are able to accomplish what they need to sooner than the rest of us.
My heart an soul ache for the family and friends of Rachel. I have a daughter her age and cannot imagine living without her.

A bright, young woman like Rachel will be missed terribly by many who know her and many more that have missed the chance. A terrible tragedy that fills many with such pain but not anywhere as close to the pain her family and close friend are going through. Please know that we ache for you and pray for your endurance and comfort.

I saw Rachel's memorial service on the Family network. What a beautiful service; But what awesome parents Rachel has...Committed, Courageous and filled with the Love of Christ. I know Rachel was dancing, when she heard.."Well done, my good, and faithful servant". May God's Presence, Grace, and Peace strengthen, encourage and embrace you.
