Mommy Peace...

September 29, 2008 2:43 PM

OK, it is officially time to put the Mommy Wars to rest once and for all. They are a myth. Do you really know a single working or not working mother who has time to indulge in a theoretical debate about whether or not they should do a job? For a start, most moms these days don't have much choice -- especially with the economy looking increasingly like a submarine headed for the sea floor -- they have to work. And those who do choose to stay home tend to be far too busy corralling toddlers to worry about what their neighbors are doing.

We don't think the Mommy Wars exist, most of us are just struggling to get it right by ourselves. So it was good to see this note of sanity on the subject in The Guardian.

Isn't it what we all know: a happy Mom makes a happy family? And whatever it takes to get there, whether it's cubicle or kitchen or, ideally a sane mix of both, is noboby's business but yours.

And check out this site, Mumsnet, too -- lots of good info.

The Mommy Wars?

Don't know about that. The current war going on is the abject refusal of many women to accept fathers as parents too.

There are far to many women who use the court system in a divorce as a tool to try to destroy and alienate the father from his children.

The continued discrimination against fathers is horrific. In Louisiana 23% of all children are in single mother households. The number of children in single father households is so low as to not even rate being listed by the government.

Where is the Title IX program for men granting them equality in the divorce court and freedom from harrassment?

Now I am opposed to abortion. However when women talk about 'choice', they are only talking about their gender. Men are not given choice.

As for child support, why do women (like Senator Julie Quinn) for example adamantly oppose automatic adjustment of child support orders for the disabled? Under current law, the parent must call their lawyer and start a case before they call 911 for the ambulance. The orders can only be modified back to the date of filing. There are far too many men living in despair and poverty - who's disability social security income is being taken by their ex's and the court system.

The child support system is so corrupt, in Louisiana they even refused to limit the maximum amount of money that can be taken from a parent. 100% of a parents income can be demanded by the courts. We even brought in a case where this was done (Martello v. Martello - first circuit court of appeals) and the man managed to overturn the case on appeal.

What is wrong with women? Have they lost their humanity?

Mr. Martello's income was $9,000/month according to the court (he says it was closer to $7,000). The court orders $5,600 in temporary spousal support and $2,600 in child support leaving him with about $800/month to live on according to the appeals court.

However the appeals court neglected to deduct his state, federal and FICA taxes in their decision. The state estimates these amounts to be about $2,600. So the court order actually exceeded 100% of the mans income.

Mr. Martello was lucky. He had the resources to appeal. Most men don't. Their only option is to flee and become fugitives - giving up all access to their kids. Nevertheless, it took him 1.5 years and another 7,000 to win the appeal.

That is if you call being sent back to the same judges court for a retrial on the issue winning!

That sounds like they are just opening him up to more abuse by an evil judge to me.

IT IS TIME FOR SANITY AND BALANCE IN THE DIVORCE COURTS IN THIS LAND.

There are far too many cases that are consuming years and eating all of the families money.
