'We Will Avenge You Palestine'
January 02, 2009 11:07 AM
By LAMA HASAN, ABC News Cairo
Hundreds of police officers lined the streets outside many of the mosques in Cairo, Egypt, in anticipation of pro-Palestinian protests. We went to the Al Azhar mosque, the capital's oldest mosque and Islam's intellectual center. We could only get as close as the front gate before we were stopped by an officer and told to leave.
It was a similar scene at a mosque nearby: riot police, police vans and officers. The city is swarming with them at the moment with many more checkpoints than usual. And once again we were told to leave.
A crowd of about 100 protesters, including women, managed to begin a small demo. People in this country are usually careful about what they say about the government in public but today their voices were loud and clear -- "watch the terrorism in this country," they said, referring to the Egyptian police. They were also chanting pro-Hamas slogans and saying, "With our blood, with our souls, we will avenge you Palestine." But as soon as the demonstration started, riot police moved in and broke it up, arresting people and putting them in vans.
The Egyptian government is very careful about scenes like these and doesn't want them to be seen by the outside world. Other Arab countries have been putting pressure on Egypt to do more to help the Palestinians by fully opening the Rafah border crossing. They say failing to do so means Egypt is aiding Israel in its offensive in Gaza.

As someone who knows the country well, these demonstrators are very courageous.
The military and secret police will note all their names and enact reprisals, that is, if they don't shoot them down in the street.
Hope there is enough media present to prevent it.
Egypt is a Saddam Hussein-type police state.
But that is OK. They are a USA ally puppet and Israeli pal.
As the old song says, "Anything Goes."

Another example of force over reason. This is how terrorism flourishes - acting without thinking of ultimate consequence. If you kill them, they kill you, if they kill you - then yours kill theirs - if theirs kill more, then you kill more. Time to let passion cool and intelligent discussions proceed. 'Avenge with blood' ? doesn't solve anything - it only gets you dead.

Israel are cowards killing innocent people. They think they can oppress people & not see any retaliation. If you came into my village & turn off the electricty and water for months at a time; & came into my home & killed my daughters, mothers, wifes, sons--and think that the Palestinian people are just going to sit there in take it, then Israel gots things twisted. Me personally I wouldnt stand for it, so I dont blame the people of Gaza for doing what they do

Cowards? Sending in rockets from Gaza into another country an not expecting retaliation, shows stupidity. I have no dog in this fight, but Hamas needs to go. Maybe the Palestinians need to think about their "leadership" over the past several decades and make a change in direction? Just a thought.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Just goes to show that the palestinians aren't the sharest tool in the shed....

Pakistans decision will unite Egypt, Syria, and Saudi Arabia to Lebanon.

Yep. And many are beginning to wish Saddam Hussein was still in power so that the extremist in Iraq would not have done so much killing. The killings by the extremist rival that of what Saddam had done. The tactics of the police in Egypt pail in comparison to what the extremist would be doing to the population. The extremist would be rounding up the moderates for torture into compliance or executed. Egypt now has to deal with the extremist infection that spilled over from Gaza.

The only winner here is some of the Hamas leadership as they can only exist in an atmosphere of hate and violence. They deliberately set up their offices in the civilian areas to invite plenty of CNN casualties for the 6 o'clock news. These are killers at heart who have thrown their lot in with evil long ago. They invite their ultimate destruction. They are not heroes or courageous but sources of evil for their own people.

Where are the protests from the "peaceful" muslims when Hamas is lobbing rockets indiscriminately into Israel. Once again peaceful Muslims have made themselves irrelevant through their silence.
Hamas doesn't want peace. And it appears Israel doesn't either. But Hamas isn't helping the Palestinians cause at all.

i am so sick of israel!!!! we must condemm all that israel does, they are the cause of so much evil.... i hope obama cuts off ties with israel let them sink in the mess they have made

None of the Arab nations actually care about Palestine. They can talk about how they care but in the end, Palestine is just an excuse to incite hatred of Jews and the West.

I'd say 90% of the blame is with Hamas and 10% with Israel.
Israel has every right to close their borders with Gaza. It's their border, they can do whatever they please. However, they should not do a naval blockade.
And then you have Hamas, what were they thinking to launch rocket strikes. I forget who said it, but "the Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity".

Israel is the land of the Jews. It has been for thousands of years. There is no such thing as a Palestinian. They are simply Arabs who lived in that region. They used to co-exist with the Jews in the Jewish kingdom peacefully and prosperously but they have been seduced by evil extremist Islamic fascists. The plight of these people has been manufactured and exaggerated by the surrounding Arab countries to punish the Jews. Those Arab countries don’t care about the people, they won’t allow them to immigrate into their country, they won’t give them some of their land to live on but they will give them weapons and rhetoric and cheer them on to fight the Jews. They fight and die and die and while they live they live in poverty without hope and the evil extremist Isalamofacists convince them that they have a chance by fighting the Jews. They have no chance at all, Israel will never fall. The world will not allow it, the United States will not allow it and GOD will not allow it.

I posted this comment on a related story, and it was removed as a violation... of my First Ammendment rights, that is... The comment was: The unconditional support of Israel by the US government and the Jewish lobby helps Israel to continue the occupation and these disproportionate responses to attacks by the Palestinians who are trying to have their freedom. Let's remember they were displaced and their land "apportioned" to create the state of Israel. Peace will never come until the US treats BOTH SIDES with the same degree of human respect.

joey----wow what crap prior to right after world war two teh previous 1000 or so years teh area of israel was a arab region the germans took over and instead of giving it back to who lived there before we gave it to a people that hadnt ruled there for over a thousand years. it would be like china or someone forceing all white people out of america and giving back to the indians...how woudl you like that..... the united states needs to stop interfering with everybody elses problems.

Three thousand years of Semites wreaking endless cycles of violence, vengeance and barbarism on each other.
Yet the wild bush really expects a 'verifiable cease fire'?
This is a joke and a deception so that warmonger bush can enjoy the mass murders.
After three thousand years of violence, vengeance and barbarism, it is CLEAR that the Semites ARE NOT rational beings!
Outsiders should stop taking sides; because the outsiders of all stripes are narrow-minded. And they only succeed in throwing fuel on the Semitic fire.
Instead, the Semites should be encouraged to recall their COMMON SEMITIC ROOTS! Or confine them to the Arabian Peninsula, their indigenous space.
Three thousand years of endless cycles of violence, vengeance and barbarism is getting a bit tired.

The audacity of Israel to murder hundreds and no world power can do didley squat, tells us who REALLY runs the show in International Politics. Unconditional support from US and G8 tells us how the Zionist state is controlling the foreign policies of the World. How are Israelis any different from AlQaeda? They have a state and AlQaeda does not. Most importantly they have media and US on their side. But you dare not say anything against them, as they will remind you of Holocaust and call you anti-semitic. Rinse & Repeat!

There NEVER was a state called, Palestine". There IS a state of Israel! Even some Arab nations have been created in the same way as Israel.
The SUCCESS of the state of Israel amidst Arab nations is a constant embarrassment to the Muslim nations surrounding the 1/2400 (0.04%!) of the total area of the Arab world & Iran (15.15 million sq km).
And THEY call the Jews "greedy"!

why didn't all this people not protest this before this war started and why don't they respect each others culture like we do in this continent America in here there is a lot of people with a lot of different beliefs and with a lot of them we're never going to agree but we manage to live together.

Israel has been committing terrorism for 40 years through land grabs and settlement building in the Palestinian territories. This latest rocket attack and Israeli bombing campaign avoids talking about the root of the problem.

Every time there is a cease fire Hamas breaks it. This is a historical verifiable fact. Hamas does not recognize Isreal's right to exist. Isreal has tried consistently to sign cease fire agreements and honor them only to have Hamas fire rockets. If Mahmoud Abbas Fatah movement comes to power in Gaza mark my words there will be two states living side by side. Hamas is the only thing left in the way.

I just hope whats going on with Israel and Palestine doesn't happen here in the USA because there's so many different nationalities here and just because you don't like someone doesn't mean you should go to war. Every land has a history theres no point in disputing over land.

Israel turned the Gaza Strip into the world's biggest concentration camp and placed 1.5 million people under a very tight closure for more than 2 years without food, medicine or even fuel. By reiterating that Israel is defending itself is giving Israel the green light to continue in its genocide against unarmed civilians. There is no word to describe how disproportionate the use of power is! I think no one would be happier than Israel to receive those "firecrackers" in order to use them as a pretext to continue with its brutal assault.

Facts about the Gaza Strip:
The most overpopulated area in the world.
11,000 prisoners in the Israeli prisons.
Poplulation: 1.5 million people stranded under closure on less than 170 square miles
It has only 3 exits.
Hamas (The Islamic Resistance Movement) won the elections in 2007 and were forced to resign. Former President Carter observed the elections

all these arabs seem to know how to do well is protest. none of them are enlisting in the gaza to put their life on the line. palestinians, hamas chose to attack israel therefore all deaths in the gaza are on their heads. iran, with the biggest mouths about destroying israel, is doing nothing. iran is also good at protests and taking embassies. iran couldn't even beat saddam's iraq in the 8 year war! egypt, iran, saudi arabia, syria, jordan all have armies, air forces, navies but not one has launched a strike on israel. all they know how to do is protest, and wah-wah. as for carter, the man didn't have the stones as cic to launch an attack on iran when iran patriots captured the american embassy and held hostages longterm. carter most probably encouraged terrorism when he failed to take military action against iran. america proved, yet again, with carter it is but a paper tiger as china has called us for years. let israel deal with its attackers. israel is a nation state with a proverbial target over it and every jew the world over walks around with a target on their back even here in the usa. a jew, in american army uniform, was attacked by fellow soldiers at an american base here in the usa and was called "juden" by his sergeant. there was no follow-up news as to what the army did, if anything, about this incident. an american jew, enlisted to fight as an american but was treated like horse manure. bush as cic should have ordered all soldiers, officers involved dishonorably discharged but he did nothing. bush left it up to army command and who knows what was done, if anything. israel keep bombing, shelling as it is your lives on the line.
